There are two types of cooking we do when away. Which one we use depends on where we are going and for how long.
If we are "out in the sticks" where there is limited food shopping available, then we will take a couple of coolboxs full to the brim with frozen meals and freezer blocks and although, at home, we would microwave these, when away they are defrosted on a daily basis and oven cooked as necessary. The coolbox/freezer blocks, if opened only briefly, will keep frozen meals for about 4 days.
If we are somewhere where food shopping is good, then we like to eat fresh, locally sourced produce, especially if it is special to that area. Camping in an area where the fish, poultry, meat, veg, grain and dairy products were living and growing around you days before you are preparing it for your evening meal is an almost unique experience in these days of high tec, factory prepared meals filled with dubious ingredients.
Camping gives us the opportunity to take our preferred lifestyle to the source of some of the best food in the world.
