Hiya all

I have a conway cruiser and my leisure battery has died so no water pump or mirror light, but we always camp on site that have EHU.  So I got a 12v power supply and ran a cable to the front locker and connected it to the battery terminals and all was OK.

My question is, can I connect the 12v power supply to one of the 12v OUTLETS in the camper to power the 12v system?  This would save me running the cable  to the front locker and having electrics in the locker with the gas bottle.

Cheers

Paul

is not there a connection block under the bench seat next to the cooker unit side of the camper?this is where mine is ,if you have the same it would be an easy job to connect your 12v inverter to that.

no, there aren't any connection blocks there at all, just a red and black running from the back of the bench towards the middle on the floor.

Hi pwiggler, not sure of your set up,but i have a 1999 cruiser which will work 12v equipment when on  HU without the battery ie (tranformer rec unit built in) not sure if yours is the same.

A fuse is in a circuit to protect the wiring and the applience its feeding. ie it blows the fuse when a fault occurs. This goes for any voltage. What you have got to watch out for by connecting backwards through a socket you could be by -passing fuses, which are always at the supply source. The supply you are using maybe fused on the secondary ,but is it of the correct rating .                              Hope this helps  GCB

i asked conway for the wiring diagram and they said they dont have any pre 2003.

i found the connector block under the seat, it was tucked right under so couldnt see it unless my heads under the seat.

it has several red posative wires going to it... which one it the wire from the battery?

cheers

Hi pwiggler,
you shold be able to trace the wire back to the front locker, it will be a twin wire [pair of wires in one cable]
it may need two people.... one in the seat area and one in the locker, you could fix the two wires in the locker together and use a multimeter to check the end in the seat... the joined wires should be the only ones to give a reading on the meter.

regards
don

or power the leads in the front and then test at the block to find the positive.

cheers don and tony

the posative in the locker is indeed a twin wire so if it still a twin under the seat then i should be able to spot it.

also, yeah tony, i could power to red in the locker and remove a red from the connector block and test for voltage to the chassis (ground).

cheers chaps, i'll do that the next time the cover comes off!!

Paul

Hi Paul,
your thinking is right.... take the connection out of the locker where the gas bottle is... that is a complete NO NO..... THERE SHOULD BE NO ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, joints etc in the same 'cupboard' as the gas connection, a cable is ok going through there but 'no connections' in that area.

regards
don
