Hard standing is not nice,but sometimes you have to use it,extra protection's a good idea. Be aware that sites don't always specify the type of hard standing,so you may end up on a concrete slab,no good at all. C&C Cub sites are guilty of this,but in most cases all units can choose grass or hs.  My gas goes behind the cooker before opening the unit,easier to connect ehu and gas before the canvas is in the way. Some sites,including club sites have a max gas bottle size,when you say big.

Being surrounded by caravans can be a pain too,some ,not all by any means,vanners have no idea how noisy they are,whereas us civilised types tend to be quieter.

We have a trailer tent - and I always book in as a large tent so we get a grassy pitch.

We keep our small gas bottle inside the tent.

We went away for BH weekend to a site that we had been too before in our dome tent adn always loved. We now have a Raclet Quickstop and on arrival were shown to a pitch amongst all the caravans. Tents are no longer allowed in this field and are now further away from the toilets than ever! Bizarre! The whole feel of the site had changed and all caravans are sited all year round, so everyone knew everyone which meant everyone gathered in the caravan behind us and were very loud till the early hours. No fun when you've got a little'un.

Seems to me this particular campsite has changed it's business ethos which is a shame as we always loved going there. Will have to find a new favourite now in the Brecon area.

Our tent would be of on a hardstanding, however we prefer to be on grass and in amongst all the campers!
