The camper we had never had hot water, heating or a toilet and the caravan did.
We missed the folding camper as the 2x beds where always made up and find more space in it than a caravan did Helen.
We also like the way the canvas opens up into the awning giving the feeling of more space.
Hi, thanks for replying. I asked because after years of tenting a trailer tenting we have decided to move on, firstly we thought about a little caravan then settled on a fc, a conway continental in fact. We have decided that we would miss the 'camping' feel if we had a van so a fc is halfway. We already have a fridge, heaters and hook up so the Continental being lighter than the other would suit us I think.
We have a fairly old Dandy. Have had it for a few years now, and have used it a lot.
I would like a caravan although hubby prefers to stick with the FC, although we are thinking of buying another newer model.
Going to the NEC in October to have a mooch. , We cant afford one just yet (unless we ditch our other hols), but we can always do a bit of window shopping.:-)
We went full circle, tent, folding camper, tourer. However we also had use of our inlaws static in Cornwall. We only used the tourer for 1 week and a few weekends away last year so we've sold our caravan (due to the expense of storage, insurance & servicing). We are now thinking about getting one of the newer quick erect tt. We loved our fc but strugled with getting it in and out of the garage (newer house=smaller garage). We like the idea of the awning being erected as one on the new tt. I think we'll only miss the caravan on the days when it's raining when it comes to putting it away.
At the mo we are back to a tent, but its too basic for us, we like 2 weeks in France and don't like the airbed for that long! We had a camp-et before but found one of the downsides with the whole thing going up in one, it was no good for over night stops. So take this in to consideration, or not if you don't do over night stops?!
For me, the Camplet going up in one go is a plus point, much easier and faster than setting up 2 x 2 berth tents for an overnighter and messing getting everything out of the car as it's already there.
We went all yr round when had ours wind, rain, snow you name it but now it's economics i.e fuel costs, insurance etc plus we love you FC more than the tin tent
I appreciate the arguments for and against caravans and folding campers. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses so its really down to personal prefence more than anyhting else.
I am happy with either but a caravan does give you that bit of extra protection from the lovely British summer weather.
We we t from tent/ trailer tent/folding camper/ caravan and now back to folding camper i loved the caravan as we had it at home a d was able to go in and out of it as i pleased for cleaning packing etc.
However altho never told husband i didnt always like pulling caravan with height (being as it was me driving car -control freak haha). I love the height of campers and so much easier to tow love the half caravan half tent aspect. I think campers are far cosier and more comfortable than a caravan with a lot more space and comfortability x
