I dont think folk are "either a caravan or a tenter". IMO it is all subjective and depends on circumstances at the time, storage, finances, number of kids etc. And at the end of the day we are all campers.
We have had them all - tent, trailer tent, motorhome, caravan and campervan - in no particular order. We have just sold our campervan after 4 wonderful years because we wanted s bit more space to take our grandson. We bought a small caravan. Much quicker to set up. When we want more space we will use the awning. We have the space in garage or loft to dry out an awning. The only unit we wouldnt have returned to was the trailer tent and only because it did make for a shorter season because it was such a pain to dry.
We wont be taking a tv as we prefer to play cards or scrabble and we have found that sometimes we have been the only people sitting outside at night, all wrapped up, candles burning on an entire site full of tenters and caravanner, no matter what mode of camping weve been doing!. One of the things I am looking forward to on our first outing with new (second hand) caravan is sitting outside tihis weekend. We even do it if its wet, under a tarp or canopy. A folding camper was also considered and would probaly have been our second choice. Plenty of years ahead of us yet to change again lol.
