I absolutely love trailer tenting!
Just want to upgrade.
Any body know anything about the Creighton Binns?
They are old! - very old, circa mid 1970's
They stem (as do all trailer tents) from almost uniquely British obsession with designing a large, well equipped, comfortable mobile home that can be packed up to the size of a matchbox and carried in a shirt pocket
Think of it as the modern equivalent of the search for a way to turn base metal into gold! - it flies in the face of all reason and sanity, yet has a peculiar magic about it that captivates the hearts of otherwise quite sensible people.
Apart from the British, the Dutch seem to be the only other race affected by this peculiar malady.
Trailer tents had their hey-day in the decade between 1965 - 1975 - a time when all sorts of weird and wonderful contraptions were devised.
The 'Campavan' was an heroic attempt at the art - that utilised a trailer with a sliding floor and a drop-down hitch (thus doubling the 'off ground' living space, with a swing out kitchen covered by a canvas extension that came off the main cabin canvas. I don't doubt that Holtkamper took some of the inspiration for their original 'Flyer' from the old 'Camapavan'
Creighton-Binns chose the 'double lid' approach (which endures to this day) , using very good quality canvas and well made fixtures & fittings. They were, at the time, superior trailer tents (which is probably why some of them are still around) but, as I said, they are fast approaching 'vintage' status.
