Personally, I would use a 12V Gel motorcyle type battery. They can be bought for about £20, which is more expensive than the 6V things, but they have proper tags rather than springs for connecting and can be recharged.

If you have SCATS store near you, they sell them for electric fences quite cheaply.

The only thing is that you would need to keep it charged, as they don't like being completely discharged.

Something like the Whale GP1352: LINK would be suitable. Then you just need either a footswitch or a button mounted somewhere on the kitchen unit.

If you use electric hookup this is what i did with ours.

You need a 12v submersible pump, 240v to 12v power pack (like the ones for camping fridges) and a whale footswitch.

You need to wire up a car cigarette adaptor to the pump and switch. This then connects to the power pack. I mounted the footswitch on a piece of wood with peg holes in to stop it moving. I then attached water grade pipe from the pump to the tap.The power pack comes with a built in fuse so is safe to use. Don't forget to get some waste pipe for the sink.

Dont know if this is suitable.

In our raclet we use a Ring brand portable shower(cost us £20).

Take the shower head off and connect the pipe to the tap inlet spigot.

Drop the submersible pump into the water tank(aquaroll or similar).

Power is supplied by 4D cells and there is an on/off switch to operatae.
