After years of using a tent we have just bought our first folding camper, a 1988 Pennine Pullman.  I've been picking up lots of advice from here over the last few days, but I still have a few questions, if anyone can help!

The carpet is very mucky, has anyone replaced theirs with laminate flooring?  I notice that some of the newer ones have this and wondered if it would be any easy task to do?

The inner tents and inner roofing also need a good clean - would putting them in a washing machine on a low heat be ok, or am I likely to shrink them?

I don't know whether there is manual for such an old model?  If anyone has a link for one, I'd much apprieciate it.  Fingers crossed for some decent weather, so I can get on doing it up!!  Many thanks..

Hi and welcome to UKCS!

My first folding camper was a 1988 Pullman in lovely condition.  Unfortunately I don't have the manual.

I have never replaced a camper carpet but mine was carpet at the table end and vinyl flooring at the kitchen end.  I would consider vinyl before laminate because of the additional weight - although I am fairly sure others have done this so may be able to help more on this point.

I have always washed inners and roof linings.  They shouldn't shrink on a low temperature wash.  I haven't ever dried mine in a tumble drier so can't tell you whether this is advisable.

Hope you have many enjoyable years in your new buy.

Hi we had an older Pullman before our current one and the carpet was a bit grungy so we ripped it up and replaced it with wood effect vinyl strips from B&Q. Easier to lay we thought than sheet vinyl and yes much lighter than laminate. (and you can just replace a strip if any get damaged). The newer campers have sheet vinyl by the way not laminate it really is too heavy.

I have also washed inners and liners in the machine.

We put our inners through the washing machine at the conclusion of each summer, without any problems

Hi. We replaced the flooring in our old pennine sterling with carpet at the seating end and wood effect vinyl strips kitchen end, as above. It made a big difference. I always wash the inners in the machine but beware of tumble drying them as the plastic(if they are plastic) pole clips can warp or even melt with the heat.

Here's to some nice weather so you can get stuck in.

Would rather replace with new carpet as it is warmer under foot when you get out of bed in the morning for that trip to the loo! It's quite cheap as you can get off cuts. We wash our inners and liners on a cool wash.
Happy camping

I'm going to wash the inner tents of Cora but think its more advisable to dry them naturally than in the tumble drier.   I shrink all sorts of clothes in mine.
