our cruiser is fine for four of us.as your kids are young they can share,so it just depends on how big the adults are as the beds are not very wide.
as to the camplets they are a great design and very easy to erect, but are more like a tent than fc.

Going back some years now.... (Although TT's still much the same) we had a Conway TT and our friends had a Camplet. We had 3 children our friends had 2. The Camplet was really easy and light to use, there's had a swing out kitchen whilst ours had a kitchen that had to be lifted off the trailer and carried into the awning. At the time in there Camplet Royale when you opened the two sides of the trailer those two pods made the beds and there was a back rest at the front which made a settee. Where as our trailer tent you climbed up into the trailer and had beds each side with a table and two bench seats, a bit like the smaller folding caravans without the kitchen area. I liked this area it seemed cosier. Trailer tents are great for space when you have children, there wasn't as much space in the Camplet awning as ours, we had an extra zip on awning that made it really big, this was really useful when the weather was bad as plenty of room for children to play. The Conway Countryman with awning, space wise, would be about the same as Camplet. You would have to zip the awning onto the FC but both still need pegging out so not much difference.
I always think what you would like to have on site to use and what you really find easy to use are miles apart!! And unfortunately it's only when you start using the item that you really know.

Sorry forgot Camplet you didn't need to attach poles like you do with Conway TT and FC. I have to say Camplet was very quick to erect.

The Camplet is good for storage, even goes on its side. The problem is that it will be a bit "cosy" for you and 2 children.
It goes up quite quickly ( providing you don't bend the kitchen pole) and the kitchen does not have to be lugged around.
Although expensive, if you want space, ease of erection and lightweight towing, there are the Holtkampers
The Cocoon with the adventure tent extension would be ideal.

Some of the other Pennine models like the Pullman or the rarer Sovereign that has small toilet compartment may offer what you want.
The Trigano 575TC is similar to the Pathfinder but slightly shorter
This site shows the dimensions of the various FC models so you may find one on there that fits you garage/drive
We have same family set up as you and yes there is just enough room without any awning for an overnighter or maybe two nighter BUT you would still need somewhere to store muddy boots, coats etc. You could set up a small utility tent or similar or go teh extra mile and get an adapted porch awning ike we have

This is a bit epic, but I hope it's helpful, although it might just confuse you more!
Our son is almost 17 our daughter is almost 15 and we've been camping since they were small, first in tents and then quick erect trailer tents. We will be on our third this summer. We didn't want to use a pup tent, lots of people do quite happily but here the very mention causes a domestic, so our unit has had to accommodate all of us. Like you we can't go as big as a folding camper.
We started with a Camplet and the kids sharing and bought the annex for when we needed to seperate them. It's small, light and easy to pitch, and at first fitted us well. Although there is plenty of storage in the trailer it does have to be packed just so, and we found we utilised it less and less, because it was easier to fill up the car. Once we added the annex though we had problems with water coming in, and after a fairly spectacular flood decided to change unit.
We switched to a Jamet Jametic, which is very similar to the Trigano Odyssee. More space, more comfortable beds, an underbed tent instead of an annex, a higher sturdier kitchen, ZIG and exceptional storage. However it is a lot bigger, a lot heavier generally, the kitchen has to be moved and weighs a ton, and if the children had been small the extra height of the beds would be an issue.
This year we'll be using a Combi Camp with one king size bed, a rear awning, and side annex. We decided it was time to switch to something more modular, that we would be able to manage without our son when necessary. It is the biggest unit we can have, the Trigano
Alpha is similar but a bit bigger.
The Holtkampers are beautiful, but a lot of money, and don't actually fit our needs as well as the Combi Camp at the moment. We need seperate sleeping areas for our teenage children, and that's actually surprisingly difficult to achieve, although I did consider making a divider for their Adventure Tent. The Flyer with an Adventure Tent can provide two rooms, but one is accessed via the other, so which little treasure would I put in there?!
Happy hunting!

Alison

Tony, are you able to go away for short trips without the awning - is there enough indoor space? Us adults aren't v big at all so I guess the beds would be ok
the cruiser is still sleeps six,the older ones pre 2008 have the slideout beds, which to me is still the best way of opening.
as to space yes there is enough space with just the main unit, but it is cosy.what i have done along with others is covert a caravan porch awning to fit the fc.mine stays attached all season,so takes about 10 mins to erect.
so to get both the fc and awning up,it's an easy 30mins,if in a hurry, can get this down to 20mins.

Alisonme I'll be very interested in how you get on as we will have similar issues in a few years.... I love howho quickly the main unit goes up, I'll be interested to see how quickly the rest of it goes up. The awning on our old one doesn't compare to the ease of the newer ones.

Hi Greenhill, I'll let you know how it goes. I don't think we'll be going anywhere until June though, because DS has AS levels in May. 😱 I am looking forward to getting it pitched in the garden though!

We have a Trigano Odyssee and 2 children- one of each. It's great. V fast to put up. We have the annexe which goes up easily so the children get a bedrooom each except on overnighters where they just share. We also sometimes use the annexe to get changed in although the tent is so light quite often we just leave the canvas zipped over the curtains for privacy as we spend all our time under the sun canopy anyway. We have one with a kitchen as we bought second hand. I would have prefered no kitchen as we never cook on it and it is very heavy. Hope this helps.
