Hi,

I'm in the market for a folding camper, but have some concerns with condensation under the beds. I have a Comanche Montana trailer tent and condensation is a problem for me.

Are there folding campers, other than the Trigano, that have slatted beds?
Is it possible to add the slats to the other folding campers and still have the camper fold up?
Or is there other solutions to look at, such as changing the plywood base with an insulated panel of some sort?

Thanks,

Gav

We found that adding skirts all round the Montana helped a lot - we get no condensation problems with ours.  You could try a windbreak first around the bed area and see if it improves things.

I think the new Montanas have slatted beds.  Might be worth having a word with Mangine Ltd. at Red Roofs in Thame, who are UK agents to see if they can be retro fitted.  We went down there last week (our caravan is in Oxfordshire) and spoke to a very helpful man who went out of his way to answer a couple of queries we had.

Thanks Ron for your suggestion, I'll certainly give that a try next time.

But, we're looking to size up from the Montana to a folding camper because we plan to travel Europe in it for a couple of years, with our two young kids and a newborn.

One of our criteria is that is should have slatted beds or some other system that does a good job at managing under-bed condensation.

Living in the south of Ireland, there is not much opportunity to go and see the various models/makes in real life.

Thanks Miserly.

For some reason, that thread didn't appear, when I searched for "slatted bed".

Are there any models that would have issues folding up with the Force 4 Dry Mat, mentioned in the thread, in place?

We have the same issue (as Miserly sent you)...I'll probably go for the dry mat as I can leave it down the whole time.

I don't have any experience of the mat Gavin,I was just passing on a link from Jinty.

However,it appears thin so shouldn't cause problems.

Have a look at Holtkampers, they have slatted beds above the storage area

The Holtkampers look nice. We saw them in Düsseldorf a couple of years ago. Didn't know they had they had slatted beds.

Unfortunately, I need something with a little more storage, so I'm moving up to a folding camper. Otherwise I'd keep my Comanche Montana.

Do you mean internal storage for travelling or whilst you're there...the holtkampers have a large storage area under the bed I believe

The force 4 mat makes a difference to condensation under the mattress. We leave it on all the time. It's lightweight and very strong and does not cause any problems when folding the camper. Hope this helps.
