We have bought a pennine folding aztec camper and want to find out if you can attach a bike rack to the top of the camper whilst in transit. Has anyone done this ? Thx in advance
Apparently Pennine stopped making the bike racks because they weren't that good. If you search these forums there are loads of threads on it and some people have put pictures on as well. I think your most secure and probably cheapest method is to get some heavy duty ratchet straps and lie them on the top of the trailer.
You can carry up to four with a MaxxRaxx, and tow at the same time ... same towball ... see their site.
We carry three ... two on the Maxx and one on the rear of the FC, but the Pullman can adapt to that.
Do you use a roofbox as well?
Else you could think of bikes on top.
Or a slim line box with a bike beside it.
Well ... yes ... every car has a recommended tow ball loading figure .... I calculate the weight of the MaxxRaxx, plus the bikes, plus the nose weight of the FC, and ensure it's within the recommended figure for my towing vehicle.
And, yes ... that was a test ... I carry a number plate attached to the bike, led lights, if towing at night, and all the rest is clearly visible through the spokes.
The one on the pic has been replaced by a Thule single roof top carrier. I drilled two new 'location' holes for the bed support bar to click into at the right distance i.e. a little further 'out' than the existing bed support holes. It works very well.
