You can just tie the guys on, I however tie the end of the guy to a small carabiner which I then attach to the tent guy points, guys can retain moisture longer than the canvas so this way I can easily take them off. removing the worry of them holding moisture and transferring to he canvas when packed away.
I think others on here have soaked guy lines in fabsil to stop the guys taking on moisture, not something I have done
As for the sliders I use camcleats, far easier to adjust and do not slip see link for picture 2nd from last item on page

Whether you should wait for good weather is very personal - if your wife doesn't mind being wet and cold and happy to put up with a little discomfort, then you will be fine.
My route to a trailer tent 5 years ago was very similar to yours: I had spent many happy years as a child in my Parents Raclet Iris Delux Trailer tent in the 1980's. One day I came home with a Cabanon Galaxy, that I bought at a bargain price (actually it did turn out to be an absolute bargain). However, first camping trip in June was a disaster - we went out in Derbyshire, it rained all weekend, it was cold, we were pitched next door to the campers from hell, who were intent on holding a 48 hour party, which involved highly improbably quantities of alchohol, and we were woefully underprepared. This was almost the start and end of our trailer tent holidays and my wife vowed never to spend another night in the thing. Luckily a vey wet summer, and lack of money to go on a package holiday abroad meant that my wife reluctantly agreed to go to Spain with the Trailer tent. We had a fantastic holiday and the rest is history
I would say that these items are essential to camping at this time of year: Small heater for the tent. Electric blanket (makes so much difference and will keep you warm at night).
