To be fair he did say he could order one for us - but the reasons were the following:
1. The material was a matter of choice
2. The set-up
3. The weight is as heavy as the F.C we have currently
On the other hand my OH was impressed with the Alpha for the following reasons:
1. Looked very well finished off.
2. Zip in ground sheet to the awning looked well enclosed (draft proof in bad weather)
3. The main body had a good size bed (slatted base), which we don't have on the current F/C.
4. Large off the ground area next to the bed.
We would have liked to have looked at a Combicamp for comparison, but couldn't see any on display. We did have a look at the Holtkampers but they didn't impress us either (for the price especially).
Just before we left the NEC we looked at the new model that Raclet had got on display - I think this is to replace the Quickstop (but not absolutely sure) - this looked really good as the kitchen could lift from the awning to inside the main body with ease. This was displayed by Raclet and they said they had not decided on a main retailer in the UK as yet to sell them....but would consider our F/C in part exchange. The only thing that put us off that model was again the zipped in ground sheet didn't look as good as the Alpha model.
They were referring to canvas vs breathable acrylic material - which is a matter of personal choice. A couple of the manufacturers have now stopped using canvas in favour of the other.
I have always liked the Camplets, but my OH doesn't.
I think in the end, as you mentioned, the only way you can tell which unit is for you is to look at all the reviews, advise and other people's experiences.
Unfortunately, you can't take them for a trial run
Or ask to have a look at other peoples units when on sites, a few did look at ours this year, with a suncamp owners wife saying that they were off to Camperlands on way home. One had a large caravan and awning but wished he had seen our unit before getting the caravan.
Thanks Griff - we might still go for the Alpha ourselves...just need to have a good think about it first. Hope you enjoy your new Alpha when it arrives for the beginning of next season.
Our 2010 Olympe GL, with large Carbanon removable front box, bed kit to turn the central cabin into a third double bed and wheeled kitchen unit is up for sale on the Tents/Trailer Tents section on the free ads of UK Campsite.
Hi Griff. Hope you have many an enjoyable hols in your new TT. We would love to see any photos you take too.
We went to see the Alpha at BCC's a couple of weeks ago - it looks a super unit. Then we got distracted by the Holtkampers again - they are in a class of their own and would love one.....but when we came home and thought things through, for ourselves, I think the Alpha is more within our budget & still considering getting one ourselves :). Congratulations!
Hi Kaz + Dave did you see the Alpha GL on display at BCC with the rear annex? Makes it a huge TT. It`s like having a separate lounge, dining room and bedroom.
BCC were going to convert the 2 sockets to UK 3 pin sockets, but Trigano already convert them for shipping to the UK market. They are situated just by the side of the bed
Fridge is in place in the kitchen unit and plugged into 230 volts under the sink. Water pump for the tap is converted to a 230 volt to 12 volt adapter and also plugged in under the sink. So as soon as the electric cable is plugged into the TT and campsite electrics the tap and fridge are on
Have to mention again that you will get a really good service from BCC.
