Going to attempt to try and put up our awning on our Pennine Sterling FC on our next holiday in a couple of weeks. Anyone know if there is a video or instructions available ? With two very young children with us- I have a feeling it will end badly and will involve a lot of shouting and possibly threats with awning poles.

Hi susperella, I'm sure someone on here can help I have the pathfinder not sure if instructions are the same, but I managed to forget them when attempting to put ours up first time oooooppppps! I prewarned fellow campers there could be lots of shouting with the other half during our first attempt and possible divorce proceedings!
To my amazement I cracked open a beer and got all the poles laid out where I thought they would go, and it went like a dream no shouting nothing. Took about half an hour maybe a little longer.
I would say don't rush it and it all seems to just fit into place.
But I'm sure someone will have instructions for you here.
What I would say if you have a camera take a picture whilst unrolling it as I couldn't remember how to roll it all back up.

Is there any chance you can get the poles out and see how they fit together before you go?  We have a crusader and didn't have any instructions, but once we got the poles out, it wasn't too much trauma to work it out...granted if we'd been on site doing this then it would obviously have ended badly, but with the pressure off at home, it was fine.

Here's a diagram that someone posted on an earlier thread...hope they don't mind me reposting it.

We haven't tried ours yet but were given this advise - wait until the children are in bed and unzip the side/front panels before starting to make it lighter. Have you got space to layout the poles at home? If you have you could you could use the diagram and colour code them with insulation tape to make it easier.
Good luck and let me know how you get on. We had a Outdoor revolution porch awning adapted which is fab and very easy to put up.

Hi

Through many years of camping in our Crusader FC (most awnings are the same set up) we came to the conclusion that the best way to put up the awning is as follows:

Zip the awning to the cabin, and then gently rest the awning on top of the cabin roof, (you will need a waist high set of steps) Assemble the awning frame work (some of the poles may already be linked by springs) hook the hooked end poles to the cabin, and connect to the rest of the awning frame work, you can put all the frame work up in its normal position. Using the waist high steps, from the centre, pull the awning canvas over the awning frame work, and then slowly, pull the awning at each end, keping it as level as you can whilst pulling it over the frame work. Pull it gently as not to snag anything, as long as you have the steps, it is so easy to do, we tried lots of different ways, and this was by far the easiest.

Good Luck and enjoy

This may sound like a silly question- but do you attach the awning to the unit before you set up the frame work- and rest it on top of the FC- or do you do that after the framework. We don't have the space to pack any steps- so wondering what the easiest way is.

Hi

Yes, we attach the awning to the unit, and rest it on top of the cabin roof.

I presume you must have somekind of steps to help you, most FC owners always take some small steps to help with setting up.

We lay our steps under the top cover, resting on the canvas when travelling.

We wouldn't be able to put our awning up without steps...it's just too high (unless you are 6'4" with long arms!)

We have these from B&Q http://www.diy.com/nav/build/ladders/step-stools/step_stools/Abru-2-Step-Orange-Tread-Step-Stool-H-0-45m-10597529?skuId=11088235 and they fold flat and slide in somewhere...they don't take up much space.

We never have any of the side panels zipped in when we're putting it up, we always zip them in afterwards.

They really arent that hard to figure out - just take your time and having a beer on hand always helps keep my hubby calm!

Good point, forgot to mention that, as Veema has said, put the front and end sections in once it is up, keeps the weight down when you rest the awning on the cabin roof.

Let us know how you get on, you will be fine :)
