What are your best ideas to make the sleeping pods darker to help kids sleep through dawn break?

Tony, did you get the material online? That's a good price, I have seen it but it was very expensive. Also have you any tips on how to make your own pod? Is it hard to factor in ventilation? Very impressed you could do that! Alternatively, I I like the blind fold idea too lol. Thanks

In the past we have pegged towels up on the outside of the pods inside the canvas to make it a bit darker. It dries the towels too. You could peg up blackout lining in the same way I guess, if you didn't want to have to sew new pods.

got the material off ebay, went for a poly/cotton in cream.as the material is breathable did not worry about ventilation.not hard to make using the original as a template.i did not put any zips in the front, the door is wider than the opening and i find it hangs nicely covering the opening.

Tony,

Where did you get the zip for the back and the clips to hold it up? Have been thinking about this but was concerned that it might cause condensation. Have you had any problems?
Thanks

Claire

I've followed Tony's tip and just remade the the inner tents for our fc out of blackout lining and they are brilliant!  Thanks for the idea Tony.I got clips off ebay and zips from ebay too - you can buy it by the metre.  So I put zips/roll up sections at all the windows and at the door into the pod.  The only light coming through is the pinholes where the stiching is.

As silly as it sounds buying the 'ready-made cutain linings' from somewhere like Dunelm can work out cheaper than buying the fabric, then just cut them up the same.   I would definitely recommend it.

Other option which works well is to simply dye the pods darker. They look very effective, and much cheaper, quicker and easier than re making.

Of course, they will never be as effective as blackout material, but for around a fiver a pod, and as long as it takes to wash them, it's worth a look.

There is a bit of staining on the pods in my new Sterling, so, having seen how effective this can be, I'm about to do both of mine in dark blue, to match the main canvas.

Both our TT pods are dyed black and work a treat.
