Has anybody pitched their camp-let on a hard standing pitch and what type of pegs did you use and was it ok for staying on as we will be staying for at least 10 days.cheers.

We've pitched on a hard standing several times.
I don't mind it (especially if it has been or is forecast to be very wet) : it makes for fewer muddy ground sheets.

Hard standings vary enormously tho, (one was tiny pea gravel, and another was huge lumpy stones which were a bit painful on bare feet in the middle of the night!) and I do tend to use an old ground sheet on hard standing, to protect our decent groundsheet.

My OH doesn't like it at all (he thinks it's not really camping) and prefers grass.. puddles and all!

We use rock pegs quite successfully on hard standing, though a hammer rather than a mallet works best

Just back from Glencoe club site,tt's only allowed on hard standing there. Personally,I prefer grass,but if it's a choice of hard standing or not camping,then out with the rock pegs. We use the plastic topped rock pegs when on h/s
and tarzan pegs (like t bar 9 inch nails) for the mud flaps. Be aware though that some sites hardstanding can be a concrete slab,best check. Where are you going may I ask?

Thank you for your answers.We are heading for the lake district and have found a few sites but some are hard standing only for ehu.

Have a great time.As hooperpadmore mentions,a hammer is useful,I use an old claw hammer with the claw ground out to make it big enough to use as a peg puller.

If the Hard tanding is gravel only half of your peg could be in the ground and the other half just in the gravel and could pull out in stormy weather
Buy some extra long ones just in case.

All weather pitches are nicer than hard standings as they're designed for tents to use too. Been on both with no problems though. I Used rock pegs for mine. I've got a breathable awning carpet rather than a groundsheet which is nicer on the feet.
