or at least should be. It ensures even wear on the tread.

some caravans have been found to have wheels badly out of balance,& the resulting vibration has been suspected to be the cause of structural damage to the van
for a fiver a time I would certainly have the wheels balanced. it helps with trailer road holding, braking & wear on tyres I assume you have checked to see if there are any weights on your wheel rims, they may have already been balanced

Hi Old chap,
No, there are no weights on the wheels at the moment. Was looking at a thread on here actually and saw a set up...noticed weights on the wheels, so thats when i got to think if they needed balancing.
Now I have another thing to add to my list of things to do, but thanks for the advice - for the sake of a tenner, cant go wrong.
Pauly

I would have thought it was just as important to have them balanced - they are smaller so will be turning faster than the car and FC/TT don't usually have any dampers fitted to the suspension.
Being out of balance must surely affect the breaking on the unit as well as tyre wear?
Ours have been balanced as there are weights on the rims.

Trailer wheels i.e caravans,fc,trailer tents, horse boxes etc do not have to have their wheels balanced.
Being in the industry and seeing furniture come away from the walls in caravans and wheels coming off(causing £100 if not £1000 worth of damage) due to trailer wheels not being balanced. Also wheel nuts not being checked before you leave home and before you leave the site is also a must.
I recently took a tyre in for a customer and on the invoice stated "balancing done" but before i left checked the wheel only to find that the wheel hadnt been balanced at all.
We as a company tell all our clients if they are to have new tyres please please get them balanced.

Hi,
Little confused by your reply, first sentence says "do not have to have their wheels balance" then you go on to say "if they get new tyres, then please please get them balanced"
I am not sure which is it, or if i am reading it wrong??!! The tyres that are already fitted are in great condition, so dont need replacing, I just wondered if they need balancing as part off on-going maintenance??
Thanks

Anything that runs on a centre spindle should be balanced whatever it is especially on wheels as in time it will just shorten the life of the wheel bearings as the unblancing will throw everthing out of tune from the spinning centre called the centrifugal force.

Yes everything spins must be balanced and weighted correctly wether it a wheel or helicopter blade. If not it will cause vibrations.

For the sake of a few pounds. Get them balanced. Having balanced wheels, helps reduce vibration /road resistance / fuel usage and so saves money.
