Lol Miserly, I was convinced the fridge wasn't working because it doesn't make any noise so patronise away!
Are you running the fridge on Gas or on Mains Electric?
The fridge itself will not make any noise as it is not a compression fridge like the ones at home.
There is no pump to make any noise.
If you are on gas, you will see the Pilot Light through the small window at the bottom inside of the fridge.
If you are on Mains Electric, the only way you can tell if it is working is by leaving it a while and then check by touching the cooling part underneath the freezer compartment.
Thanks Lobey, it was on mains, but we've only ever used an electric coolbox or a fridge at home so I expected it to do something! I made sure the trailer was level, and re-read the instructions then started cursing. I did however also leave it plugged in on the off chance and eventually realised it was actually getting colder! It's nice to know its quiet though!
I need electric hook up these days because of medical equipment and so our gas is only eve used for cooking.
I put two 4.5 bottles of gas in when we bought the FC in 2010 and we have not used the first bottle yet although we have done some extensive touring.
Fridge wise, when we first arrive at a site, I have it on at full for about 3 hours, then turn it down to less than half setting and it keeps everything plenty cool.
We've never been particularly interested in a 3 way fridge, we usually have electricity and use the electric coolbox, and for the odd trip without we have a decent normal one. It's going to be very novel to have a fridge even at a festival!
We've never got through a lot of gas cooking either, it seems to go a long way.
Slightly off topicish, but even on a flat surface (if you ever find one) still put chocks under the wheels. Made a newbee error of not doing so last week on our first outing and all the jumping in and out of the trailer moved it slightly, enough so that after 5 days and you could see the beds pushing against the canvas. Anyway a quick shove the other way and a chock loaned from a fellow camper stopped us moving again until we popped to a local camping shop the next day. Another 4 nights and no movement.
