The good people at Pennine have got back to me to offer a piece of ply ready bonded with the stucco aluminium outer and the pvc or vinyl inner coating.
However they no longer have the jig to cut the board to the pattern for a 2003 Fiesta, so I would have to cut it myself. Many Pennines seem to rot (I am seeing the evidence in photos of units for sale and in renovated units with walls replaced, say the details)This leads me to predict that they do not build with marine ply - for sure - decent marine ply has a 15 year guarantee. (High quality core, no voids, WBP glue, high price)
In fact I don't think that they even use exterior grade ply (lower quality woods, fewer plies, risk of more voids, WBP glue, more moderate price).
I believe they use poplar plywood. This is commonly used for caravans. Websites tell me this is chosen for its lightness. It's 2 thirds the weight of pine ply. Marine ply uses hardwoods so will be heavier still.
It is also inexpensive. To be used in external applications it must be properly protected. Any water ingress will be soaked up... leading to the problems I'm having. What is critical is to have all edges properly sealed.
Although the price Pennine quoted is much more reasonable, if I am going to the trouble of repair, the time spent is the biggest investment, so I can't make up my mind what to do.
OPTION 1 - order the Pennine panel. Drive to Lancashire. (200 mile round trip) Pick up. Cut it to shape and do a mega superb job at sealing all edges. Cross fingers.
OPTION 2 - order 18mm marine or external ply locally. Do as above. Salvage outer white painted aluminium stucco from old panel and glue on. Source pvc bonded sheet to glue on... or just paint the interior. Much cheaper. More work. Gambling on being able to strip off the old stucco and reuse. I have found Alu-stucco for £50, but not painted white.
Regarding your unit Mr T - DO ACT on where water can get in. Mushrooms belong on a plate, not growing out of your trailer.
