Hi Veema,
Yes, I do have the flap of skirt material with a figure 8 attachment on.

It fits as you describe to cover up the gap where the wheel arch is and the figure 8 strip attaches to the skirt that goes along the bottom of the camper.

On my Crusader I have two press studs (poppers) already installed either side of the wheel arch to hold the top in place. I'll try and post a picture later so you can see how mine is set up.

Right, I've had a phone call from Pennine...have to say, I've read several things about them having rubbish customer service, hence my initial sceptism about them responding, but they replied to my e-mail the next working day and I told them I worked until 3.30pm and the chap phoned immediately after 3.30 this afternoon, so impressed by that.

The chap I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about and said that on the new campers the zip flaps are indeed sewn to the other side of the reinforced section, so it's clearly a fault.  He said we could have some poles, but our camper doesn't have the bracketry to connect them to, so he said the best thing to do would be to tie some string or cord of some kind to the pole at the outer side of each of the zip flap, push the bar to where it sits on the reinforced section and then tie the other end of the string to the outer bar (the one at about 45deg)...simple as that.  If we find that that doesn't work, then get back in touch and they will make up a pole for each side to tie the intermediate bar to the end bar.  He also said that the tie wires don't do anything at all, and aren't included on the newer models.

So, it's still a bit of a Heath Robinson job, but he was quite helpful and at least now we know it's not a case of us putting it up wrong...I should have asked him about the press studs too, but was walking out of the school at the time and totally forgot!

I can't believe they made something so well then made something that's Pete tong.
Just get them to do it, they're quick enough to take the money.

Thanks for posting the update from Pennine, as you say at least we know it's not a case of putting it up wrong.

All the same it's a bit poor for a an expensive FC with a clear design fault not to be recalled for a factory fix.

That come under the not fit for the purpose it was intended.so it was not designed right for the job is was meant to do. And the other thing it's put me off buying a new one. As when I showed you the pictures of the poles I knew there's no way you can be without these, when you use them you realise what they actually do.if It was me you 2 should complain until they sort it out. As I say your camper is not fit for its purpose/job, it's not a design thought its a cost cutting attempt, as they had them before.

Of course it's fit for purpose!  We've been away in it umpteen times, in torrential rain and gale force winds and it's never leaked or anything...I'll take a picture when we are in france and show you how tight the canvas is...don't forget, ours doesn't stretch like a regular canvas.  If you're saying ours isn't fit for purpose, then neither is yours really as it lets draughts through at the gas struts! Us having to tie some string around the poles isn't much different to you putting draught excluders on...and all the other things you're doing...lol.

They are expensive and it is most definitely a design fault, but I personally wouldn't want the risk of sending the canvas back to them to have the flaps restitched at the other side only for it to come back and leak or something!  They've realised the fault and have rectified it in the new campers...

I think that's a very generous attitude to take veema ... luckily the problem doesn't affect the Pullman, probably due to the slightly reduced space between the upright poles. I'm not sure if I'd be so charitably disposed towards Pennine if I had the problem.
What about attaching (sewing or glueing some tapes to the appropriate places on the roofing, then tying the poles to them ... about three along the pole length (one at the centre amd one each end? That's how we used to attach our old ridge tents (thirty years ago!). At least it would force a location onto the pole's position ...? I would have thought a length of two inch wide canvas, or some such, glued (evostick?) to the roofing along the
line of the poles would protect from 'rubbing' ... thinking about that ... maybe the three tapes could be sited uder the protective strip, all glued in, then they'd just secure the pole ...? Does this make sense? ... I could post a sketch?

No I meant what they've done as its not been designed right , you shouldn't have to sourcing parts to make it work properly. That's their job.
Theirs a thread on here about someone having the problem leaking, and saying how good pennine was at sorting the problem.
Put it this way if I designed your kitchen and something didn't fit right or worked properly, you would expect me to resolve the problem.
And yeah I agree I shouldn't have to be sorting out that draught problem, but mines a 2005 model and there's not much I can do but one that cost £10k and isn't that old should be rectified.
And seen as though godaddy has already signs of wear, who's going to pick up the bill to repair it.
Hopefully not you, like I said before mine goes very tight without the poles, but with makes lots of difference.

Kelper, the poles already go through some sewn in loop things, but they are sited at the wrong side of the reinforement...I'm not at all inclined to start sewing or gluing anything onto the roof...as I say, it doesnt leak now, don't want it to start!

At the moment I'm happy to give what they've said a go...if that doesn't work, or the canvas does start to show signs of wear, then I shall get back on to them...at least I've now got a record that I have contacted them about it and I am following their advice.  If that then causes a problem, or doesn't work, then they can sort out the poles for us like they've said they'll do.  Lets face it, tying a bit of cord between 2 poles isn't really a hardship.
