The maximum tow weight is the maximum it can pull away with on a 1 in 10 or 1 in 8 hill without doing damage to the cars transmission. Putting all the weight in the car will make no difference to this as the car must still pull away with it. The gross train weight is the critical measure. That is the loaded weight of the whole outfit. and having the car full will not make this more. The other consideration is the balance of weight between the camper and the car. It is recommended the weight of the trailer is not more than 85% of the weight of the car. This is to stop it snaking. In practice, many drivers will tow a caravan over this weight, but they are able to balance the weight distribution in the caravan easily. This means getting the weight low over the axle and getting the correct nose weight to ensure the outfit is stable. FCs unfortunately are not good for getting good weight distribution as things have to be put where they will fit in the limited space available when folded. The other thing to consider is that the 1.4 Meriva is already a big lump to move with a 1.4 petrol engine and diesels are much better at towing than petrols as they have more torque. Having said all that this report from whattowcar gives it a good match. http://www.towcar.info/report.php You need to carefully check all the figures
