Hi all

We have camped for about 3 years now in our Monty 6 but have today bought a second hand Trigano Galleon with sun lounge and awning - can't wait to pick it up but wanted to ask the experts if there's anything we should know particularly about trailer tents?

Also need to get a towbar fixed to our xsara picasso; how much should we expect to pay?

We have a week booked for summer but do you think we need to let them know we are now a trailer tent or do you think the pitch will be ok anyway?

Thanks!

Ohh, I think the Triganos are beautiful. Never owned one so I haven't got any hints and tips, but I'm sure somebody'll be along soon who will give you loads of good advice.

We paid £180 last year to get a tow bar fitted to our Skoda Octavia - that's the sum total of my knowledge about tow bars, I'm afraid.

We've been trailer tenting for three years now and have found that campsites treat us like a tent, in fact, several have been a bit baffled by what a trailer tent is.

I cant comment on the TT but for your towbar check out PF Jones, I have used them twice and you can get a towbar and all wiring for under £100. Then if you know someone to fit it or do it your self and save the pounds for more Camping items that you dont need but must have lol

Cheers Paul

Re the towbar ...
Do you want to carry bikes as well as tow?
If so, then the best bike 'rack' that fits on a tow bar and allows you to tow at the same time is the MaxxRaxx ... check out their site: here ... this will allow you to carry up to four bikes whilst towing. Having tried many alternatives, this is the best I've found, by some considerable distance! Also keeps your height down (compared to roof mounted carriers, which reduces wind drag, but also brings you down to Class 1 vehicle height for continental motorway tolls).
If you do want all that ... then the towbar required is a swan neck ... check with MaxxRaxx for advice, they are really helpfull.

Hiya, we have a Trigano Cheverny and we are classed as a tent according to campsites, some are much bigger than others but the site we go to it makes no difference.....
Try towsure for your towbar, or buy the towbar from eBay and get it fitted somewhere else... good luck with TT'ing (we are heading off on out 2nd TT trip this weekend, bought one last Aug after camping in a tent, then sold that one to buy a bigger one earlier this year, cant wait) xx

A lot of sites don`t understand what a TT is, which is a tent in a trailer hence they book it as a tent. The same happens with a FC, which is a tent in half a caravan, which again can be booked as a tent.

Personally I couldn`t care less what they book me on as I just give the size and pay for a tent

Would be careful if you put bikes on the tow bar whilst towing as there is a good chance you will exceed the nose weight of the car/tow bar.

Thanks everyone for your advice...just another couple of questions!

What sort of towbar should I get?
Can the galleon awning be put up with the groundsheet attached?
Do I need a footprint like a tent does?

Thanks again :-)

Sorry, but that is highly unlikely.
MaxxRaxx are meticulous about this, and often fit cars to carry four bikes on the tow bar as well as towing.
We carry two ... the nose weight calculation is precise, and we never exceed the vehicle's recommended level.
If you do get it wrong, it's probably due to incorrect balancing of your towed vehicle.

As to what sort of towbar ... back to my original question:
Do you want to carry bikes?
If yes ... I'd recommend a swan neck.

250 quid for a bike rack kelper do you get a man free to fit the bikes for you ever time. Are bike rack cost 35 quid. But just working it out I put two on roof so needed roof bars plus carries probably not much difference in cost but I do use the roof bars for the roof rack.

Kelper, looking at the MaxxRaxx it can take 80Kg, that is straight on the towbar. From looking at the ratings of cars they range from 75Kg to 125Kg (for BIG cars). say 60Kg on the bike rack and 70Kg for the trailer and you are up at 130Kg...........

Try and find out what electric sockets you will need.

13 pin or

black 12N or

black 12N and grey 12S

13pin are by far the best but will need to suit your TT.
