Thanks, so the zip you bought was a lot longer than you actually need to just attach the awning flap. Is it a double ended zip you got?

Yes the length was 660 I think, I mention it earlier in the post, and double ended, here's a pic.

I’m being extra cautious, ( thick!) you sew one half of the new zip to the awning, in place of the beading which would normally be threaded through a figure of 8 or awning channel.
And then the half of the new zip you have sewn on is compatible with the zip already on the camper, so you can just zip it over, using the existing slider on the camper side of the zip?

Hi just joined the site.
Looking for some help about putting a Vango airbeam onto a Pennine sterling FC.
After doing lots of reading does the Pennine sterling FC use a YKK 10 zip which I could stitch onto the Vango porch.

If anyone has done that would be good to hear from you.
Kids grown up and don't need to use the big awning now.
Have my own industrial sewing machine so could do it myself.

Quick update, phoned Brian Park camping. Explained the situation, sent some pictures to Brian and ordered
010-zip Spiral nylon heavyweight open end grey or white 2sliders.
Year of Pennine sterling is approx 2006.
Fits my folding camper spot on.
Just have to stitch zip onto Vango airbeam awning I have purchased.

Found BrianPark to be incredibly unhelpful. Exchanged a couple of e-mails & then nothing. When I called to follow up was told that ‘he wouldn’t spend any more time dealing with a zip’ & that they sell ‘zips to people who know what they’re doing!’
Had he said to ring from the off then I would’ve done that-shocking customer service.

Before buying our awning we looked at what was available, and finnaly decided on a Alpro Uno, which suited us better than most of the others. To fix it to our Pathfinder we use a gusset triangular shaped piece that is left zipped on and permanebtly attatched, The lower edge has a bolt rope { a piece of electric cable sewn in} to which a figure of 8 is used for the join up. This is blissfully quick and easy to set up and take down, without the need to mess with zips. It was easy to make and hand sew.With the only need to buy was a zip and figure of 8. The gusset piece is made from a spare awning bag.

It's a sad day when a retailer feels it is acceptable to be rude and unhelpful because a customer is asking questions.

I rang Brian Park asking about a 10C zip for a 'new to us' 2008 Conway Countryman.
The lady that I spoke to said that YKK had moved factories and changed the specification of their zips. She said that I might be lucky, but she couldn't guarantee it, however they would refund (minus postage) if the zip was returned undamaged.
I ordered a 4m open ended zip online and separated the 2 halves - then found that I couldn't get the zip back together again. I rang for advice and found the man I spoke to (Brian Park?) incredibly rude and unhelpful.
He was shouting at me and telling me that I wasn't making any sense - this after he completely misunderstood me and assumed I'd got the sliders off the zip!

Thankfully the half zip did attach easier to my Countryman and turned out to be the correct type.

I bought a second hand Kampa Rally 200 porch. Rather than cutting off the piping edge, I removed the plastic insert. I put the zip on the camper and attached the porch to the zip with bulldog clips. I also marked the mid point of the camper and the start and finish of the porch with biro on the zip. then carefully unzipped it. I found that neither of my domestic sewing machines would cope with the zip and the awning attachment edge.

I took the porch and zip to a sailmaker, who both glued and stitched the zip on. I'd asked him to ease in a little fullness at the centre apex, to help the zip go round the corner and he made 3 little pleats in the zip there.

The porch has cost me just over £100 and I'm incredibly pleased with the result - a very fast and easy alternative to the full awning.
