Hi everyone :)

So I have a Conway trailer tent. I would love a luggage rack for it, because I have a tiny Rover 25! They seem very expensive though. I was wondering if anyone has come across any alternatives - is there anything I could make at home or buy instead that can be made to fit?

Any suggestions?

Thank you kindly!

I've got no idea about home made racks but just to say bear in mind that a trailer tent has a finite payload, usually about 100kg-125kg. This isn't actually that much once you start counting in things like fridge, gas bottles, furniture, items in the side lockers etc so you can't really start adding a heavy rack plus four bikes or piles of kit say, if the trailer is full already. Check your TT manual though for the payload, or it might be on the trailer plate somewhere. Your poles and canvas don't count as payload btw, they're assumed to be part of the trailer weight.

Also if your towcar is tiny, make sure it's up to pulling a fully laden TT before you load it up to the gunnels. Don't want the tail wagging the dog.

I had the same dilemma, but had to give in in the end. This seems reasonable to me, especially with it including 2 bike carriers and they are open to offers. I know some people have just strapped bikes to the top laying them flat, but I wasn't happy to do that

The bike racks are cheap ones, which means it's not really a bargain. If you are patient, you can find cheaper than that.

My car can tow another few hundred kgs on top of the trailer tent so I'm not worried about that. :) However, good point about the maximum weight of the trailer.. hmm. Really I'd just like to put bikes on the top. I have a bike rack for the car but it makes it a pain to get into the boot and I often need to get into it while we're travelling.

Have you looked at MaxxRaxx bike carriers?
You can carry up to four bikes whilst towing see here ... and, you can access the boot without taking the bikes and rack off (they hinge down to provide clearance). I've found it the best solution to bike carrying ... and I've tried quite a few!
