We've never used the fridge that came with our Conway trailer tent. I'd like to use it this time, but don't plan to have electric at the site. Forgive me for totally stupid questions... but do you take the fridge off the towbar end and bring it into the tent? Do I just buy a splitter type hose so we can cook with gas also? Thanks for helping a newbie :D

Yes, just take it into the tent. I run mine off a separate gas bottle but a splitter would do fine, just make sure the hose lengths don't get too long, I| think 2m max is the norm. Also, for some reason the fridge needs to be absolutely dead level to work on gas so take a piece of board to place it on, a small spirit level and something to use as wedges. The board keeps it off the groundsheet anyway, I've always been a bit iffy about gas appliances directly on groundsheets.

Thanks. I guess I will need to test it when I set up the TT tomorrow in my driveway, since it's never been used. 2m shouldn't be a problem, I'd want the fridge by the kitchen anyway. Board, spirit level and wedges... note to self! Thanks.

I would advise you to make sure the fridge I vented to the outside of the tt we have al read about carbon monoxide poisoning

We use a fridge on gas but as mentioned above you have to be aware of the carbon monoxide risk.
We turn ours off at night for this reason with no real drop to the temperature inside by the morning.

I only turn it off just before we are turning in and during the day when its on i prop open the tent near to it with a couple of pegs.This gives it direct ventilation to the back of it where the flame is.

During the day we are in and out of the tent anyway so pleny of ventilation,at night this doesnt happen which is why we switch it off.

If we had a sewn in groundsheet i wouldnt use it inside.

Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, just look at the horrible accidents last year with the throw away bbq's.

Best to give it the respect it deserves.

To be fair,a fridge only uses a tiny amount of gas,and a nice blue flame produces little or no CO. Maybe I would worry in a small poly tent,but not in a TT without a sig

When you turn it on, on gas, after a few minutes you should feel warmth coming from the vents at the top at the back. This will indicate it is working.

I agree, I certainly wouldn't use a gas fridge in a tent with a SIG. But a TT awning is a different affair, the groundsheet is loose and there's plenty of ventilation under the flaps.

Thank you all. There is very good ventilation in the awning part, and the sleeping compartments are zipped off at night, so I think CO shouldn't be a concern. If the fridge is down at the ground then it will be right near the bottom of the tent which is vented anyway, even better if I put it against the underbed compartment.
