Hi all, hope you can help.

I have a camplet Concorde and need some help with luggage. It has the roof rack on, but no roof bars or anything. We're going to France in it in a couple of weeks and will need to get some extra storage as the cars will be full with kids and stuff. What are my options without spending a fortune?

I'm a novice on this sort of stuff and not very practical, so all guidance gratefully accepted.

Jon

use hold alls instead of suitcases, then using some of these fasten it all down, cover with this to keep water proof keeping fixed in place with some of these

or....this a box too big, and on backwards

you could get all that i reckon for under 30 squid, just make sure its fastened down tight, and balanced equally over the trailer tent - hope that helps, I have seen it done

hi, iv a concorde & I hav a canvas (waterproof) roof bag (£60) with a detachable holdall (also waterproof) which holds all clothes, side extension, plastic 4 drawer set, picnic blankets & other odds & ends ( when OH isnt looking). I put a breathable groundsheet on top of the rack, then the roof bag which has a separate canvas cover with extendable straps on which I clip to the camplet roof rack - everything stays in place & dry. I also strap the poles & the windbreak the rack bars along the sides. When I get to site just unclip bag & bars put groundsheet down (if its not raining) put bag on groundsheet, pull awning over, put bars in & finish unpacking inside - works brill for me - hope this helps - ( the roof bag was from A1 motor stores but you can get them on-line )

I used to use a huge roof bag on top of my camplet,it came from a company called van comfort, and is the medium size, which is nearly twice as big as a Thule folding soft box.   I held it on with a couple of ratchet straps. It's not the worlds greatest quality bag, water resistant, rather than proof, but it did the job for 3 years or so.  I may still have it,though I have a sneaky suspicion it went in our last boot sale.If so it's up for grabs for a donation to Help for Heroes. I will have a look in the loft when I get home in the morning. Now i use the touring cover,I got a second hand one from Camperlands, and it's brilliant, with the lid loaded with all the soft stuff in Sunncamp tent bags,as well as last minute bits and bobs. The ground sheet and under bed store(clipped in place) are under the cover too.  However you load the tt,don't be tempted by an elasticated trailer load cover, they come in all the wrong sizes, and on most the hooks won't go around the bars, and they end up looking like an explosion in a spaghetti factory.

Packed and weighed, courier is £5.40 ish, can't be exact until I actually send it. Let me know if that's ok,and your address, and I will send it on. I lost your no. sorry,so give me a ring if you would. Probably easier if I pay for it this end,and you can send an armoured van round with the cheque!

Don't buy roof bars unless you buy a roof box for the trailer - but this is expensive and impractical because you'd have to remove it all before you put the tent up and also you'd have to store it on site!

This is what I do: on the Camp-let trailer I place:

a white tarp 10x10 over the trailer and on top I put:
    - large box of food
    - 3 way fridge
    - baby's high chair
    - baby's travel cot
    - extension awning
    - extension awning poles
    - miscellaneous items
(until this year I also put 2 bikes (kids) across the back of the trailer and covered with the tarp)
I then bought some bungee cords and 2 ratchet straps
All this cost £40
The bungee cords just help position the tarp (useful if windy)and help secure any excess tarp that could flap about at speed (you can always tape it down as well)and the ratchet straps secure the load to the trailer: doesn't look as neat as a roofbox but I've had no problems and you can make the load slope down (aerodynamics)if you want to benefit fuel consumption!

If it is wet when we arrive on site I just wrap the stuff in the tarp while I put the tent up!

I've tried everything. I used a big Halfords roof box,it CAN stay on but positioning it for balance and not interfering with the underbed store was impossible. The roof bag was great,as it came off completely when setting up,and held the under bed store in place in transit. But when I got the chance at the touring cover for half price,I took it.On the top of mine is anything that may be mucky, wet or need airing,so ground sheet, underbed store, bedding, ehu, pegs and tools, trolley for the loo,and anything I remember last minute.

stdomingo, please ring,I have lost your number ,sorry.
