I put our awning up on my own, with the help of our small 15 year old daughter. We zip out the front and side panels, (actually they live zipped out) and then zip the roof to the top of the main unit. Then we throw it backwards over the main unit while we put up the poles. Next we pull the roof section over the poles, tension it and peg it down. Finally we zip back in the side and front panels and peg them out. It takes us about half an hour. We don't have an extension, but if we did I think I would use the same method. Hope that helps, Becky
