For the first time ever the plastic side panels on our Combi have bulged with the recent heat and just will not clip back into the rubber mounting channel.

One option is to pop-rivet them to the steel frame, but Combi never did this. Any one know why?

Does anyone have experience of this problem and a solution? Silicone adhesive is another idea, but a mechanical solution seems to be more sensible.

Finally does anyone know of an owners' club for CommbiCamp?

Thanks VWstarbug just been over to the forum may be of future use. I don't Facebook, tried it once, it's spooky how Fb knows who I knew! I'll rely on my engineering experience to fix the Combi and add a report after 1,000 miles across France assuming it worked OK later end of August.

happy camping.

Job done. If anyone else has this problem the solution is easy. Remove the plastic panel, lay face down on the bench, mark up and front for safety, then measure and drill the plastic to match the spacing of exposed steel frame of the trailer. Refit the plastic sheet, then drill the steel using the plastic as a template. This is box tube and quite thin walled. I spaced five inches up and four inches down for each hole, pop rivet and Bingo a better job the Danes ever did! Now its permanent unless I drill out the pop rivets, and I can't kick it out if I straighten out in my sleep.
