I have just bought an old, second hand pennine pullman. Today I tested the electrics and they are ok but wondered if I have the capability of a leisure battery too. I do have a grey lead for a leisure battery but can't seem to find one ! Also, the guy i bought it from said the fridge (which he had never used) was gas. It is gas but also has two thin wires going into the back of it, 1 red and 1 white. Does this mean it is also electric? Advice most gratefully received !
Hi Mattycliff, Yes the fridge should be 3 way, mains, 12v and Gas, the 12volt is for powering the fridge when towing and takes its power from the car via the grey 12s lead, when on site with no EHU you can then run it on Gas, and mains is of course for when on Hook up.
Even though you have the grey lead you may not have a leisure battery in the camper, we did not have facility for one in our Pennine Sterling ( 2000 model )due to the fact the previous owners always went on Hook up sites, where we go mainly on non electric except for our main holiday when we go on Hook up.I got round that by making an Adaptor lead which connects a leisure battery via the 12s grey lead, and that has worked ok for us this last 2 years.

It should have two switches on the front, a green which is for 12 volts and a red which is mains, just switch the red one on ( after connecting hook up ) and adjust the temp as you would your fridge at home, the plug for the mains on ours is situated in the cupboard under the sink.
Regards

I used to have a 1980's Pennine Pullman and the fridge in that, which was the original, was 12v and gas only. I never bothered with the 12v as we did not have duel socket on the car, and to run on 12v on site would soon drain the battery. We ran it on gas only and it was a brilliant fridge. As you state there are only 2 wires coming from the back I imagine this is the 12v.
We own a 1988 Pennine Pullman and our fridge is only 12v and gas. No option on the front to switch it over, but we do have the grey plug to connect to the car for the journey. May be the case that you only have these two options as well.
Thanks everyone. TR75, you are right, it is only 12v or gas, I have just downloaded and read the manual. Do you have a leisure battery in your FC or do you just run an EHU? Also, near the foot pump for my tap there is what looks to me like an electric pump but I may be wrong. I took a photo but can't upload it. Any idea what it is? Thanks
