I'm new to the website and new to the world of trailer tents and towing. I've picked up some good information from here and elsewhere and have a couple of questions that I need a little help with.

Our car is an 09 plate Ford Fiesta 1.25. On the V5 it states that it has a maximum towing weight of 500 Kg both braked and unbraked.

We were initially considering changing the car to match a caravan but, after a bit of reading on these forums we spotted a thread where someone mentioned a Comanche Montana trailer tent was good for towing, with smaller cars.

We have had a look around and managed to spot a couple of them under the 2k price mark and we are seriously considering purchasing at this point.

I'm having a little difficulty ascertaining the maximum laden weight of this trailer and working out it's user payload. I wondered if anyone could possibly help with this. I'm also wondering if these units are braked or unbraked.

My OH is a bit wary of towing and doesn't feel ready to make the commitment to a caravan and more powerful car at present. I was hoping something like this might increase her confidence when towing a trailer and that we could move up in steps to a light caravan next year.

I'm wondering what people (especially those who have towed similar) think our towing experience is likely to be like with this sort of configuration and whether or not, this would be more or less likely to put my OH off towing altogether.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Col

Hi
I like you am a complete novice to trailer tenting but I can Google

Try looking Here

It seems to me it is very well within the parameters of your car. Just remember to add any other bits you load in to the total weight and you will be fine.

You can tow just about any trailer tent with that car there are only a very few at over 500kgs most are between 325 and 375kgs, so don't limit yourself to a Comanche Montana and you certainly don't need to spend that kind of money either. Have a look on ebay under "tent trailer" and see what you can get for less than £1000 then if you don't like it you can sell it on and probably get your money back.

You should not have any trouble towing a Montana, they are relatively light and compact.
They are not trailer tents BTW, they are folding campers, smaller, lighter and easier to erect than the average trailer tent.

Hmm,they are a tent on a trailer, that makes it a trailer tent in my book! There are plenty of other options out there as mentioned above, though quick erect tt's can be a pain to level unlike more traditional ones. If you go for the montana, look for one with the upgraded axle. Moving on to a caravan is DOWNGRADING btw!

This might be a good starter TT, even mentions in the item description it was pulled by a small fiesta. You didn't mention how many berth you need, but mine fully loaded is only 450kgs so Angela's right, don't limit yourself
