i have just bought a 1983 pennine pullman, and stupidly have not yet seen it, just pics.

It sounds like it has not been fitted with electrics or a leisure battery, and i want to ask the following:

1. Were these makes fitted at the factory with an elctric plug in, and internal sockets, or was this too early for this?
2. How much work and cost would be involved to do this myself, and what parts will i need to do it properly.

The camper has a fridge, which does work off the mains or gas.

Hi Nigel

Not sure if the camper has electrics, but the simple solution for mains option .You can purchase a camping hook up. It  comes with mains cable rcd protection (which you have to have) and 3  mains sockets all in one unit .Have a look on e bay for a view .£36 new. to do it yourself  would work out more expensive .you would need.

a length of 3 core hook up cable (your required length)

A camando plug and socket

an rcd protected fuse board

cicuit breakers for above

3 core flex to wire from the fuse board to the sockets you intend to install

And of the coarse the sockets  you want to install

you may be able to buy this in kit form.

For 12v gear ,leisure battery fuse board (similar to a car) and the wiring in

between .The expensive way is fitting a zig unit which has both fuseboards in one unit and a charger to charge the battery whilst on hook up.

Hope this gives you some idea ,good luck GCB

thanks for that. seems the leisure battery is going to be a pain to do, but the ehu from main sounds not too bad for a penpusher like myself.

Hi Nigel,
I've bought a 1980's pennine pullman and it has two double sockets inside (look like add ons) but it has a three pin plug built into the chassis to hook up to external supply. I think it may have had 12V but i cant make head nor tail of it so we just get ehu when we go away
happy camping

Thats my job this spring when/if the rain stops - going to fit 240V/ 12v electric to my old peniine aztec. I have rescued all the bits (transformer, zig etc)from my old conway cardinal so I am hoping it wont be too difficult. the hardest bit is finding room in the smaller aztec to house it without losing valuable storage space.
