Hi,

My hubby , me and kids currently camp but since disc replacement surgery last year left me with spasmodic torticollis and also suffering from degradation of the lower discs in my back (God i'm lucky aren't I lol) we are now looking to upgrade to a trailer tent, mainly for a more comfortable bed.
So I have a couple of questions, firstly what is the (roughly) normal size of a bed on a trailer tent? And secondly, would you say they are more comfortable than and airbed / camp bed / combination of both ? (I've just about survived two nights on the combination but not sure I can do much more :s

The bed on our Combicamp is eight feet wide - supposed to be two double beds, but as there's only the two of us, we enjoy the extra space

The mattresses in our Combi are comfy, but we also bought a three inch memory foam topper for it, and now it's really blissfully comfortable

The reason we bought the Combicamp trailer tent is because my hubby has had back problems for the last ten years, so he needed something with a higher bed sometimes. He had an operation last year to plate & pin across three vertebrae with chippings of bone to fuse to replace the two discs, but he still hasn't been free of pain in his back and leg since then, so at the moment our beautiful frame tents are on hold, and we're having to use the trailer tent. He sleeps as well in the trailer tent as he does in our bed at home if that answers your question.

They can differ depending on which one you buy, some have doubles, and others have one kingsize one side and standard double on the other.

I have a bad back (car accident), but not as impressive as yours. I would not get one where you have to sleep where your feet are pointing inwards to the middle, rather length ways (hope that makes sense) as i found that easier to just roll out rather than climb out.

TT beds are by far comfier, and trust me, I've tried every combination when we camped in tents. We've just bought memory foam mattress toppers to add a bit more comfort.

The market in secondhand TT is a bit flat at the minute, so there are some real bargains to be had.

Another thing to consider is if your OH has to put it up himself, the conventional TT can be a little tricky solo, so maybe look at a camplet/commanche/combicamp depending on your budget - these have a far easier set up - but most do have the need to climb in and out rather than roll as i mentioned

I know how my back ruins my life at times, so I have to takes things slower, hope you get sorted, am so happy with ours (same model) and I paid £350.

Hi Mrs Elvis,
We have moved to TT this years, mainly due to my back and two rounds of back surgery (I feel your pain).

I have to say it's the best move we've made. I used to wake up several times in the night in the tent with air beds and that left me knackered each and every day of the holiday. We took the TT away for a 9 night stay in May and each and every single night I unbroken sleep, bliss and it made the holiday so much better.

After doing much research we went to the NEC in March and had a good look around at TTs and ended up buying one. We chose the Raclet Safari, from Black Country for several reasons, but they included - sprung slatted beds, good thickness of mattress and kingsize beds and boy are we pleased! We have bought a 1" memory foam topper, but mainly as it is a stay cool one and we are off to France this year in hope of some sun.

The Safari is VERY easy and VERY quick to put up also which was another plus when buying it - one person can easily put it up. The TT also has a very good frame and is a braked trailer

The only downside is that it costs more than the cheaper models, but we love it and plan on keeping it for many years to come and two 2 weeks foreign holidays and it will have paid for itself.

The amount of pegging can be a problem if you have a bad back,even non pegging units like the combi NEED the awning!
Have you considered an FC instead?

we've used the safari (in good weather) with just 4 pegs and that includes awning :-)

We had a tt & used a raskelf topper to cover where the zipz join to form a bed - it made a hugh differenc
