Just wondering if anybody knew if patching a small tear in the roof of a tent usually works if using the correct materials.

Thank you
Simun

We are on a weekend break at the moment in a tent at Abbey Field in Lathom Nr Ormskirk
This is a lovely family site and is only 1/2 hour away from where we live,
We have also been to Nant Mill Nr Prestatyn this was also a lovely family site but is over 1 hour away,
Does anybody know of any more nice family sites for camping around the lancashire area Nr Southport etc where people don't i.e. don't have loud music, swearing and getting to drunk,
We love our 12 year old boy to have a nice time and find friends and for me and his mum to relax,

Thank you
Simon

Tear-aid type A is also good - have just used on canvas roof of Conway challenger with success as it has had a good test these last few days with the thunder and downpours of rain!! You can get it from Milletts and online.

Hi Simun & welcome to the forum

Yes, sewing on a patch of the same kind of fabric will work - just use seam sealer over the stitch holes (& leave the tent pitched for a few hours while the seam sealer dries, otherwise it can stick to another part of the tent which it's folded against).

As a temporary repair while you're on holiday, just use a bit of duck tape if you haven't got any tenacious tape.

We've patched a tear with tear aid...it's fine.

We stayed at Abbey Farm last year and really enjoyed it there.

here are a few tips i picked up. repair inside and out,My repair was the mud guard so tenacious tape outside and gaffer tape inside.

I find gently heating (with hair dryer) the gaffer tape gives me better adhesion. The tenacious tape, cut to length, then round off the corners so there are no sharp edges, helps prevent it catching and peeling I believe.

Where possible, clean the surface. I used alcohol wipes as its plastic, but would be weary on canvas and other materials.

And only use tenacious tape on low stress areas and always carry some spare, its a camping essential
