Hi all,
I'm very new to this game and have a very old pennine pullman I got on gum tree. There are a couple of things I would like to know so if anyone has an answer that would be much appreciated!
1. Now that TV has gone digital, would a portable TV with an indoor Aries work in the FC?
2. The electric cable that plugs in to the tow bar for the trailer lights is a little temperamental, you really have to push it in to work and it comes loose. If I buy a new cable, where on the FC does it attach and is it a job I could do myself? As it is just for the towbar and not the EHU?
Thanks,
Matt

TV signals aren't magic; the TV companies don't broadcast special extra transmission for people in folding campers.

Essentially, depending where you are in the country, you need precisely the same equipment the locals have in their houses

If they can get a decent picture with a piece of damp string, it will work for you in a camper. If they need a 60-element, amplified, multiple aerial on a mast 210metres high, that's what you need too.

To be honest, if you have to ask, no this isn't a job you can do yourself.

Just the towbar. Honestly, really don't work on this yourself; this isn't actually difficult but with the lack of knowledge betrayed by your questions, you need to be shown not try to pick up what to do from responses on an internet forum.

I had problems with my towbar plug on my second hand Pennine Fiesta FC.  It was fine the first couple of times I used it, but then started to be intermittent on LH turning.  noticed bleeping noise wasnt come on and then it would start.  Always checked before leaving home or site if everything worked, had various men on the site push plug in properly and then say it was working, as soon as you were up the road and wanted to turn left it wouldnt work.  Got quite stressed out on Peterborough ring road over this intermittent working.  Asked towbar fitter to come and have a look to rule out if it was a fault on car, he grudgingly came out and checked car towbar which was okay, but he took the FC plug apart and it was corroded inside and the (Scuse my lack of terminology for this but) the prongy bits that slide over the prongs on the car plug were too loose.  I apologised and said I would pay for his call out and time, and he then proceded to check everything on camper including bulbs in all the rear lights etc, and also cleaned and tightened said prongy bits.   Was working for a good hour on it and charged me 20 quid petrol money.  WOnderful man albeit a bit grumpy.  Elaine

We also had to take ours apart and rewire it!! It seemed to solve the problem for a while but it does have it's moments!! Going to replace the plug when we can.

As for the ariel, I agree that it depends on where you are. We've got a beat up old one that my sister calls my old coat hanger!! but it never fails us!!

Thanks Elaine and Fredted. All advice and experiences taken gratefully. As for Paul, I maybe new to the FC game but am not, I'm sure you will be saddened to know, a complete moron. Sarcasm will keep you lonely it seems.

Hi Mattycliff,

As the others say ,it all depends on the signal strength .I bought an indoor aerial recommended to me and it did not work at all. While away I bought a second amplified indoor aerial a more expensive one and that was poor also, but I was told it was a poor reception area .If you look for campsites on this  forum their is a little dropdown to check the tv signal strength for the site you choose .I ended up with the vision plus aerial and never a problem.

As for the socket problem it is likely the pins are worn .I would just swap the plug .Make  a little drawing to make sure you don,t  get it wrong or google  search trailer socket diagram will show you which colour cable goes to which number pin.

Sometimes the problem can be dirty pins or a loose connection .Make sure your connections are tight,

   Hope this helps   GCB

Just buy a normal home tv aerial, they're far better than anything else you'll buy as they pull in a better signal from week signal in your area.
Fitting a booster does not give you a better signal it just amplifies a poor signal.
I just bought a small tv for my camper as with most tvs these days digital built in, and works well.
I did try a satellite dish and was a pain more boxes more to do.

We have a vision plus it fits on the jockey wheel of our camper. We bought a small television from Argos works a treat. We have only been to one site where we had problems and there OH clipped it to the side of our small step ladder as the jockey wheel was against high wall.

By the way small lightweight step ladder really useful with FC's not just for awnings!!
