need to know where i can buy a patching kit for our pullman had an accident when putting up at the weekend. we don,t really want to send the whole canvas off to be mended as we want to start using the fc soon. the colour of the required material is cream any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had a large part of the window part from the canvas in my awningby the door. I went to Casey's Camping and they said all I needed was a tube of this adhesive. Ever the cycnic they persuaded me it was good, so I bought it anyway.
Well, I was very impressed. It drys clear, and bonded the tear a treat. It performed all through last year and was still strong when I put the unit away for winter. The tear was next to the door, so considering the amount of pulling that gets as you open and close the zip, I would recommend it to anyone. The tube cost under £7. But....I can't remember the name of it!!!! apparently it is a very common product though, and you'll need the version they do for Canvas and not nylon if you try it.
Kate, you may like to try the Canvas Repair Centre, in Burton on Trent, their number is 01283 541721, I have found them very helpful in the past, they do hold some small stocks of the more popular makes of canvas,ie Conway, Pennine etc.,

I used a tent repair kit from the local camping shop to fix a tear in our awning canvas last year. The kit consisted of a transparent patch (repairs any colour of fabric) which I cut to size, and some very sticky glue! I'm sure the kit cost less than a fiver, and it made a very good waterproof repair (it withstood the torrential downpours of last August!)
in the past i have used a piece of ordinary material colour matched, and used copydex to glue it from the inside, wait till the glue dries before putting any tension on the canvas, but most important do not try to stich it together as everytime the needle goes through you are just putting more holes in it. if you have some fabsil go over the top of the repair, but this isnt really neessary as the glue will waterproof it, and for the future keep some material and glue in the camper just in case
Clear silicone sealant ( the kind used by window fitters and builders) makes a fabulous adhesive on canvas, when dry is probably stronger than the canvas itself, and is totally waterproof.
