What are the pros and cons of each? I started off looking for an SE as I thought having a built in kitchen would be much better and easier to transport plus would give extra storage in the trailer as we don't have much room in the car. However, after visiting a show room, I was put off buying an SE as I was told they were prone to go wrong, are difficult to fix (he made it sound impossible), add a LOT of extra weight and aren't really worth the hassle.
So I've been looking for an S but there aren't many out there for sale. And thinking about it, they only stocked the S so there may have been some stearing in that direction. Can anyone advise ion whether it's worth persevering looking for an S, or have I been badly advised about the SE?

Hi Sally
I recently purchased a 350 SE and would recommend getting one with the kitchen. The overall weight of mine is only 350 kgs (500 fully loaded with gear) and very easy to tow. If you buy one without a kitchen you'll have to buy a stove anyway and with the SE you also get a sink for washing up, cleaning teeth etc and good storage for pots pans cups.
The only thing with the kitchen is that it takes 2 people to lift it on/ off the trailer, but as long as your not going it alone then look for the SE for sure

Bear in mind 2 things:

1: You can't put up a SE tent with one person - you need 2 to move the kitchen

2: The kitchen costs a lot - much more then, say, a Kampa Roastmaster and a Camp Kitchen.

We're looking at 2nd hand tents and both seem to be coming up at the same price.

What were the issues that were prone to go wrong and difficult to fix on the 400SE?

Who said "he made it sound impossible" and which show room did you go to?

The only difference between the 400S and SE that I recall is one has a kitchen unit on the back and one doesn`t.

We were told that once the hobs went wrong e.g. Soot build up it was impossible to fix but you had to keep taking a basically useless kitchen unit. I was wondering how often the kitchen units do go wrong and if they can be fixed.

He's talking utter nonsense! There's no issue with soot build up, and if there was you can just change the burner jets.

Sounds like he has as 's' model he wants to sell you...

We have a 550SE and have no issue with the kitchen. Our previous Cabanon Galaxy had exactly the same kitchen, even though the TT was pretty old, we never had any issue with it. I can't say I have ever heard of problems with the hob

The kitchen gives loads of storage space. As it is accessible when the trailer is attached, it is really convenient on journeys.I would not consider a TT without kitchen unit

Right, I think he was spinning me a line as they had several of the S to shift! I'm really glad I asked now. I'll be having a bit of a rethink now. This came from the guys at Camping International in Gillingham and has taught me not to ask salesmen for advice!

Not very good customer service IMHO,

We used to have a Sunncamp 400SE and had absolutely no problems with the kitchen unit whatsoever.

As mattsurf says the kitchen gives loads of storage space. Everything for cooking and eating is all in one place. You also have a sink, which you can put a tap on yourself so you would have running water.

Go to Black Country Caravans where you will get proper customer service.

Given the number of old kitchens on ebay, I suspect that most last longer than the TT

Can't really think of a downside, other than the weight, which is fine for 2 people to move

I have a 400se and have had no issues with it whatsoever.

I will miss it when we sell it.

What a load of tosh, what makes a tt kitchen any different to a standalone stove ?

Kitchen unit wins hands down for the storage aspect. Sure they are heavy but you can remove them on your own if you drop the legs before removing. Then you can move it about a bit at a time by going back and forth from each end.Ive done this with our cabanon which is one heavy kitchen but essentially the same as the sunncamp.
