We bought a conway corniche from a private seller, we took it away last weekend, it was a shocking weekend weather wise but the awning was not waterproof at all, we packed up the next day and came home, since we have had it out and dried it all, but now we need to waterproof the full awaning, whats the best way to do this please?

Before you reproof it, try putting it up again and soak it (with a hose pipe if necessary)and see if it still leaks. If it hadn't been used for some time, it may have needed weathering again as the threads shrink and need a thorough soaking to make them waterproof again.

Hi

Do you know when the TT was last used before you? If the canvas hasn't been used for some time, then the fibres shrink causing the natural holes between the weave to widen - this then lets water through.

This is only temporary, and when fully re-hydrated the holes will close on there own. My suggestion is to leave it till start of summer next year and then put the TT up in your garden/drive and give it a good drenching with a hose.

If you can leave it up and keep repeating the process, if the canvas becomes water proof on its own then bonus. If not, once you re=proof the canvas its a laborious job you commit to having to do every few years.

There are several ways of applying waterproofer....fabsil seems to be the one of choice, applied either with a small roller, or with a spray bottle or sprayer for garden fence staining (obviously with no stain in it)

Personally, I would try the natural remedy, mine was letting water in on the seems when we used it, and the old couple we bought it off hadn't used it for 2/3 years. After a good drenching of us and the canvas, they seemed to close on there own and became water tight.

Re-proofing should always be your last option

I re-proofed (after a mega mould attack and cleaning off) four years ago ... no sign of any leaks since, and no sign of needing to re-proof again.
So, if you have to ... don't be too worried.
I used Isabella re-proofer after using Isabella awning cleaber on the outside and Sudbury Mould and Stain remover on the inside.
It looked like new!
