Is it the original Conway awning ? If so, it attaches by sliding the awning bead (sewn along the rear of the roof panel) into an awning channel that is screwed to the side of the camper roof.
The roofs are prone to water ingress which can rot the side panels, so it's possible that the original awning channel is no longer there. It can be cheaply replaced - but the fixing screws will probably not have much wood left to grip into, so use Sikolflex to bond the new channel on, just using screws to locate and secure it until the Sikoflex has cured.
Once done, nothing will shift it.
They never sold a great many Tardis awnings - the price was well over £900 + VAT (30 years ago!) for what was, in effect, just a large porch awning.
I know that not long before Conway closed, they still had a couple of original Tardis awnings - for which they still wanted full price ;) Presumably, they were transferred to Pennine as part of the buy-out deal. (probably kicking around somewhere in a forgotten dusty corner ;) ) - and, on that note, it might be worth ringing Pennine about the bedroom tents you're after - who knows what old stocks they still have floating about?
The framework will have two side roof supports with hooked ends - these were intended to be used in conjunction with two large 'eyes' (came as part of the awning kit) that the owner screwed into the sides of the roof.
