Hi

I have purhcased one of the leisure battery chargers from Lidl recently and I was wondering of it is possible to do a set up where the charger and leisure battery are connected the whole time we are away with the items we use on 12v (ie cool box, lighting etc) could be wired up on a switched box to be turned on and off at will all while the charger is still connected?

Many thanks for anyones help :-)

Hi,

From what I understand it would not be good to leave the charger connected and on whilst you are pulling a load from the battery.

If you had a timer switch on the charger you could charge the battery during the night , then let the battery run down during the day/evening.

To leave on charge all the time would damage the charger and defeat the object of using the battery, as the charger would supply the 12volt lights alone. Most chargers give around 4amp charge current.

A good environmental option would be to use solar cells to charge the battery when you do not need it. We have toe over to solar powered lighting and low energy bulbs.

The problem of liesure battery's is the weight, but if you go to sites with no EHU, then they are great to have.

Best regards,

Tony.
