Any advice about storeing a Conway folding camper in garage over the winter. Do I need to remove the inner tents etc. and mattress and put them in the spare bedroom. Should i put a dehumidifyer in the camper or will it overflow. Thanks
When we had a Pennine Fiesta it was in the garden with a winter cover over it. Left all bedding, curtains, inner tent in.
Got some big sheets of cardboard and put in-between the folding tent as its put down. Damp crystals from Towsure and a couple of their towers(optional) as Asda sells damp buster type things for £1 each. We have got them for this year with the caravan as we are going to leave the cushions in our van what is in storage this winter. We took them all out last year, but our home is too small. So using the 2 towers + Asda things.
We opened up the pennine on a dry sunny day to have an airing which was advised when I asked the same questions.
If you put winter plus choose One year in the search above there should be quite a lot about it to help you unless they have removed it. Have a go there above.
My Pathfinder was stored in my workshop which was big enough to open the FC out and leave it up.
Everything stayed in the FC all winter and two weeks before using it I would set up the dehumidifier and leave that on 24/7. I would empty it every day and by about day 8 there was hardly any water gathering.
Its worth looking up previous threads about using dehumidifying crystals. The consensus seems to be that unless you can seal up the F.C. from the air completely the aren't any use for obvious reasons!
So long as it is dry when it goes away it will be fine. Try and open it and give it a little fluff to change the air if you get a nice day. Ours has been fine for the last ten years.
We over winter our in a barn, we leave everything in her as we don't have space in doors for storage, just make sure you drain tapes down and anything else with water in it. We give our fc a blow through every now and then in winter on a dry crisp day when there not much moisture in the air. I also check for mice .
I leave mine in the garden with everything in it.
I make sure that it is dry when I put it down.
I place 2 old sleeping bags on top of the canvas followed by bubble wrap and then finally 3 old feather pillow to form a ridge.
This is my 3rd winter that I will have used this method.
I open it up about once a month when we get a dry day and leave it up for a few hours.
The feather pillow stop any water pooling on the transit cover.
Hope this is of help
John
When we stored at home we used to take all soft furnishings out and store indoors (mattresses under beds) .... now it's stored in France, so everything remains in situ ... both systems work/ed well ... though the french store is very dry and indoors, where in the UK we stored in our driveway.
If you have the space to store stuff indoors, it will almost certainly be slightly 'fresher' ... inevitably anything that's in an 'outdoor ambient', is going to retain more moisture than if stored in a centrally heated house.
