Hope you are getting it all ship shape for 2014 and able to get back out there!
As to whether you need a porch, only you can decide. There are 4 of us and we have a spacious 6 berth but still wouldn't camp more than overnight with at least a small porch purely for a some chairs and coats/boots
As former FC owners we are more used I guess to putting up awnings of some sort each time we pitch so no real biggie putting one up on a caravan, especially the small 1.8m one I picked up for overnighters or winter camps
While there is just the two of us (and the two wee dogs) we like to spend our main holiday touring for a month at a time.
Our first full month in the FC was to N.I & Donegal and we had no awning with us.
A month of sitting either in the car or on the FC Bench Seats was a little sore on the posterior and so it was out of necessity that we bought the porch awning to house two comfortable chairs.
The caravan has exceedingly comfortable seating and so, we are as yet, undecided as to whether we will use any awning at all. Time will tell.

The beauty of the porch awning that Lisa uses is that on a windless day, because it has a slanted set of poles, all the front guys can be removed and the front folded back to give you a sun shade type awning.
What make of porch awning is that LobeyDosser cos I like the way the front unzips. Just bought a Suncamp Swift and it is a bit narrow at the front
