We joined the caravan club to give us more selection. The price was almost the same as the CCC. However a friend of ours who is a member of said CC told us we would not be made welcome on their sites. Are we going to be the poor relation on the CC ' all back of the bus ' sites we visit?
My OH is a bit freaked out by this now. Also I note they don't have an icon thing in their list for TT's. Are we just to assume we are considered a caravan by the club.
We joined this CC club for the same reason. When we went to book for our folding camper, we couldn't see an icon so we rang up. They were fine. We used a few CC sites with our tent and never felt like a poor relation. Maybe we were just lucky!
Trailer Tents are more than welcome on Caravan Club sites. The only issue might be is selecting the right size pitch as the Club now have a lot more non awning pitches (affects caravanners as well!) If your TT has large footprint it would be best always to book a awning pitch. I have stayed on 8 CC sites this year and its fair to say that TT's are fairly rare. Also they have a special section on their forum for TT's which is not widely used. It does seem to me that there is a lot of misinformation out there, often not based on personal experience, on the sort of welcome anyone will get on a Caravan Club site, the way I look at it is that I am as good but no better than anyone else staying on site
We've been members for a couple of years and haven't experienced anything like that. Quite the opposite, in fact. We've been offered cups of tea when pitching and packing up and quite often find that people ask if they can have a look around our little 2 berth Raclet.
We've also found the Wardens very helpful when asking if we can pitch 'the other way round', as the awning goes on the front, unlike a caravan.
We used to have a trailer tent or a canvas mansion as i called it due to its size (7mtrs by 4.5mtrs) and for 10 years we only used caravan club sites with no bother at all from wardens or other caravanners, it's true what others have said about not seeing alot of them on site but from our experience certainly made welcome by all.
As David Klyne says book an awning pitch and you shoudn't have any problem with space.

------------- Why have kids when you can have a dog?
Don't worry! we have used CC sites with a trailer tent and have been made very welcome. As others have said, they are a bit thin on the ground, never seen more than 3 on the same site, but this makes them a conversation piece. It is a good idea to tell them you have a TT when booking as they can advise you about suitable pitches.
As has been said there is no issue with the CC taking trailer tents, we started with a Dandy in the 1970s.
What you get with all sites is the occasional individual who feel they or their kit is better than yours. That is their problem not yours most on site will be just as friendly as you are. The problem is IMO worst the other way, when owning poncy kit, there are some who prejudge you and get it completely wrong, again their problem.
I used a Conway Cruiser on many CC sites and loved them! Always welcome but always unique - never many tt or fc on their sites. However we were never made to feel unwelcome and if anything the opposite was true! Because our caravan with a tent on top was unusual, we had many interested/nosey visitors wanting to look round our trailer. Lots of the tin tent people were amazed at the 2 double fixed beds and level of equipment in the Cruiser, even if it didn't have a fitted washroom and toilet. And where space permitted we put up the awning to make sure we had enough space undercover to make even the most anti-canavas camper jelous! Now we have a caravan and fondly remember the easy towing and storing of our fc. But we do prefer the all season all weather comfort the caravan provides. But I for one would never make a tt or fc user feel unwelcome on a CC site
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
Thank you all for the reassurance. We're a bit more confident now. I asked my friend why he thought the way he did and he told me that full canvas units lowered the standard and the next thing would be tenting parties. Rather arrogant I thought. However we've paid our fee and will make use of the sites. Thank you all.
Ichie I heard years ago that th CC thought like your friend I was only a kid when I joined what was then called The Camping Club of Great Britain and Ireland
and we always hear that caravanners thought that tent campers were 2nd class
It's not the unit it's the occupant just think some of these big vans are owned by right chavs but then so are some big tents

I for one do not like tenters, caravaners, motorhomers, trailer-tenters etc. I like campers! Whatever unit you turn up to the campsite with makes no difference. You are still a camper camping on a campsite! Ignore those who show distaste for your particular mobile home and embrace those who don't. You will end up with more friends than enemies. CC sites are generally very good and the CC members (I am one of course) are generally friendly people. Book some sites, have some fun, enjoy the company of campers that don't judge your outfit for its 'cool factor' and ignore the very small minority that 'look down' at canvas lovers or motorhome lovers or caravan lovers etc. You will be having fun while they are trying to impress the whole campsite with their chosen style of camping. 99% of campers don't care what you camp in - but then 99% of campers are to busy having fun to care! I recon I have said my bit now so happy holidays
