Just trying to gauge what others do when just going away for 1, 2 or even 3 nights.
Having a debate with the better half and have said if we were to go away for just a weekend we would be better just putting up the main cabin and then some kind of quick erect kitchen tent to put our kitchen unit in. This way it would make set up and tear down faster and in the event that we had to do a wet pack up it would be far easier to open out the cabin on the drive and chuck the kitchen tent in the back garden rather than trying to put the whole unit up.
The other option which possible is to connect the sun canopy to the main cabin and just put the kitchen unit under there and hope for vertical rain rather than the horizontal rain we seem to get in this country!
So what do others do for their short (3 nights or less) trips?

What you could do is don`t drop the legs on the kitchen unit. Take it off the TT and place it at the side of the TT so when you lift one of the beds over the kitchen unit is underneath the bed.
That is assuming it is an you don`t intend using the kitchen unit when camping for an overnight stop or a couple of days.
When we first got a trailer tent the children were small and we felt that indoor cooking and space were going to be essential even on a short trip, so we opted for a Camplet. When we changed it we were putting DD in an underbed tent, so no awning would have been a bit hard on her in inclement weather, so we stuck with the pram hood style of TT.
Now we have a Combi Camp and have done a couple of nights with the sun canopy over the kitchen instead of the full awning. It worked very well, but the weather was pretty good. The sun canopy has roof poles though, so I suppose if the weather was bad we could add uprights and a windbreak pretty easily.
We go in our 5 metre bell tent....
Wouldn't of even thought of going in our cabanon Stratos for less than a week !!
The problems I see are towing the thing and lack of space if only using the cabin and not very quick to erect.
We've been away in our with just the cabin for 3 nights. We had it up and pegged down in 20 minutes and we just put a tarp over the kitchen when it wasn't being used.
We even took the cool box which we plugged in then put under the bed on a few tins to keep it off the floor - was perfectly fine we just looked a little sad in a field of tintops.
On my shopping list is going to be either a pop up gazebo, or a day tent for a bit of shelter as we do plan to do it more.
------------- As a child my families menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it.
Like Alison, we've got a Combicamp. I've put just the cabin up (takes less than five minutes) and used a single burner cooker on a kitchen stand in the living area of the cabin which is about eight foot x five foot, so an ideal unit for overnight camping or very short breaks.
With your Raclet tt Nick, you could put the sun canopy up & use a simple windbreak around it.
Thanks everyone for their thoughts and advice. For one or two nights it will be kitchen under the bedroom or if we need the kitchen or doing 3/4 nights it will be kitchen under the sun canopy with windbreak and a tarp over for nights. See how it goes this season, just need a little less rain now!
