Weve only ever stayed on grass not sure how I woukd peg it down on hardstanding??

Prefer grass but our favourite site only has hard standing.
Hard standings vary,and some are impossible to peg out on,and others just difficult. As a camplet doesn't peg around the cabin,it's often possible to have the wheels on hard standing and peg out on grass.

As Miserly said, depends on the type of hard standing. Some are hard to peg into, some are next to impossible as they are like, or are!, concrete.

We only ever pitched on grass when we had our TT, especially if we didn't know the site, as we'd never be sure if we could peg into the hard standing. With the cabin needing pegging down it was kind of crucial that we were able to peg down!

With the FC we go for hard standing when we can, as it's only the underbed skirts that need pegging down (with the awning obviously on the grass) so if we were ever not able to peg the skirts down, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Some drill-in rock pegs have avoided that situation so far.

Grass Grass Grass everytime lol.

I may be slightly biased after the really bad damage to our last trailer tent was caused whilst on hard standing due to the fact that it was impossible to peg properly 9even with decent "rock" pegs")

I'm glad somebody has asked this question as i am new to to trailer tenting and was wondering the same thing myself. Grass does seem the better option,however, many campsites say you must lift your ground sheet daily and some even say no ground sheets allowed. To lift daily would perhaps be a bit of a bind but no ground sheet would not really be an option. Used to go on caravan club sites with a motor home and and always used hard standings and never had any trouble pegging out the drive away awning other than it was harder to pull the pegs out at the end of the stay. Still unsure which route to go.

If the ground is soggy use hard standing otherwise grass.

Hard standings do tend to be more level and consistency varies. It is rare that they are so hard as to defy rock pegs.

Grass is great in dry weather, not so good when it's been raining for most of the summer! I like using all weather pitches with pea gravel to peg into. When you've got breathable groundsheet on top it's even comfy with no shoes on.

If I get a nice dry grass pitch I don't bother with a groundsheet at all.

Well after the VERY trong winds along the scarborough coast last night buffeting and bashing our new trailer tent and awning I am SOOOOO glad we were on grass. The wind is strong enough for it to be a struggle to open the car door this morning!

Every peg and guy rope has held. The trailer tent is rock solid. Was so worried during the night, was having flashback to November, but my fears were unjustified. It is still very windy so waiting for a break in the wind before we even think of packing down.

Thank goodness for late checkouts.

Hard for the FC (with out bed skirts) and soft for the awning if possible. But that is in a perfect world. Usually find these days that its completely on hard standing if we want EHU.

The C&C Club have been "upgrading" a lot recently,and lots of nice grass pitches have dissapeared. They seem to be pushing tents further away from the facilites and it's lending credence to the theory that they are tin tent biased. However ,the new hardstandings are peggable ,it's just not great camping in the middle of a bunch of shouty deaf hobnail boot wearing caravanners, who don't even have the decency to co-ordinate their nocturnal door slamming toilet trips.Backpackers of course are still welcome on the marshy bit behind the septic tanks. A lot of club site pitches are nominally grass, but many are reclaimed quarries and the like and are rock hard under the first couple of inches. So,always take rock pegs as well as nice cheap nylon ones.

At the op,if you have a suncanopy,add an extra guy to the centre pole and invest in 4 delta pegs. ( That must be most number of replies before deltas were mentioned ever!)

I'm not so sure about soft or hard, but given the choice I always ask for a flat pitch.

This does challenge the wardens as they not sure whether they are allowed to put a trailer tent on the flat pitches with the caravans or whether they should really be putting you on the sloping pitches with the tents.
