Hi

Does anyone use just electric for cooking and living when camping?

Our Globetrotter has 2 ring gas cooker, but we also have a a 2 ring table top electric hob, small electric oven, George Foreman and low wattage kettle and toaster.

Have just set eyes on this which would replace our existing George Foreman, as well as our Cadac gas BBQ.

I realise I can't have it all on at once, but has anyone else made the switch to just using leccy and no gas?

Depends on amp available. We have a 2 burner electric hob which e would use almost exclusively on 10 amp & above.

I use all electric when on EHU - just need to remember to limit the usage to whatever power your EHU is

Whenever possible, we use mostly electric to save our gas. Plus you've paid for the electric.

The only problem I've had is that the rings on the hobs stay hot for ages after switching off - as my melted plastic utensils will testify to

In our FC we make use of EHU if available as we can then use an electric kettle and toaster and can switch the hot water heater and fridge to electric, but we still use gas anyway as the hob/grill/oven is gas only, as is the blown air heating.
As the hob/grill/oven and blown air heating are all built into the FC they get used, rather than having to buy/pack electric hobs and heaters (although we do have a small compact fan heater packed away under a bench seat storage area in case of any problem with the blown air heating and to heat the awning if needed).
If need be we can even manage without EHU as with the FC having a leisure battery that then powers the lights, the fan on the blown air heating and the 12V sockets to charge a phone etc.
We then switch everything else to gas - hot water heater and fridge - and hob/oven and blown air heating are of course gas only anyway. Toast is done under the grill and hob type kettle brought into service for tea/coffee.

Same with gas though, how many burnt lids have you seen on TT and FC's?

as an electrical engineer,we worked on campsites a lot the biggest problem for site owners, but great overtime for us was touring campers tripping site supplies,15a is the max load a lot of sites install 10a trips, so be careful what appliances you use, use hotel type kettles and appliances made for camping watch your loading, hope that helps,

yeah, all of our lights are LED, we already have low wattage kettle and toaster, and we are always aware to unplug/turn off what we are not using.
