New to camping, Why do they not have a symbol to say if they accept (folding campers/trailer tents) at campsite. Are you only accepted where you see the "tent" icon, also on your maps what is the difference between red & green tent symbols.

If you have the same onboard facilities identical to a caravan such as toilet, sink, wash basin shower and cooker etc. then you would be categorised the same as a caravan as you can be self sufficient and not reliant on site provisions. Toilet blocks, showers and possibly washing up facilities would be required for the majority of campers but if the site does not provide these needs then this is more likely to be the reason why the symbol states no tents.
The page indicates as follows: Green icons indicate 'Featured Sites' which have full details and photos etc.
Note: these searches only work on English, Scottish, Welsh, N Ireland, Dutch and French sites.

The way I look at it is that a Folding Camper is the same as a 'soft top' tent and a trailer tent is as it says a tent with a trailer.
People do get confused as you will see if you look at the adverts on Ebay and some other Sale sites.
If I am queried about our Folding Camper I describe it as above and it seems to solve any problems.

If the site only takes tents then my folding camper is described as a trailer tent. If the site only take caravans, I describe myself as a folding camper, the bottom half being as a caravan. Never had a problem yet.

Folding campers are known as a convertable caravan we just ask for an electric touring pitch and if they need to know whether tent or caravan we go with caravan selection

The Caravan Club accept membership from folding camper owners dont they? But then the cynical might say this is just because they want your money.

Why do some sites not accept tents? Is it damage to their grass, size of large tents, more noise from tent owners or what?

As far as I am concerned the folding camper is very similar to a caravan in terms of the way it stands on the pitch so should be accepted but its best to check in advance.
