Hi All,

Went to see a local trailer tent display today and we really like the Sunncamp 350SE. We were so tempted to buy it there and then but it is a lot of cash.

Does anyone have any advice before we take the plunge? There are six of us, two adults and four kids under nine - and we want to spend our money carefully. Would anyone advise against this TT or have a suggestion about where we might get a better deal. This one is £1699 but once the extras are added in (front box, spare wheel, under trailer liners, etc) the price is nearer £2200.

Many thanks for any advice.

Jan & Ian, we looked at trailer tents last year and because of the outlay decided to stick to a tent for the time being.

Last year was our first year of camping so we felt it was wise to make absolutely sure that we were happy before spending too much.

Must say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have decided to stick with the tent... feels more like proper camping. Mind you, the tent is huge, with all the home comforts and more like a holiday home!LOL. There's some pics on my website.

Sorry I can't be more helpful with your TT questions.

We had a big frame tent when our four were little and the space was great. It took too long to put up though and was impossible for a weekend. Trailer tents are quicker and have the added advantage of being up of the floor and a better kitchen. I would buy one where the main unit can be put up on its own so that if you arrive late have a one night stopover or ever a really sunny weekend you can put it up quickly and add the "awning" the next day or not at all. On some you have to put it all up every time.

Yes do get a trailer tent but second hand is absolutely fine........I hvae one with the underbed tents where you can pop at least two of the kids away and they love having their separate space, where they can keep all their goodies and even invite their friends in!  And adults can sleep happy upstairs..........and you can even get an extra child in between the 2 double beds in the trailer.......

Second hand is definately the best way, even second hand from a dealer if you want that extra piece of mind. We have a Folding Camper, but we only paid the same price as a new Trailer tent. The previous owner had done a fair bit of work to the electrics and the interior, everything was included too. Worth investigating secondhand.

Hi Janice and Co,

We have had a Sunncamp 400SE bought new in 2002. We are about to sell (subject to tomorrow's viewing of a folding camper) as it's down to two of us more or less and we want a unit we can live in just the cabin of. Certainly we've found the Sunncamp to be of quite reasionable quality and the size is fantastic. It's done us proud but we don't need the size. Sleeps 4 inside and 4 underneath and more if you put in an awning inner! Useful as slugs have attacked us once - when in a tent. Ours has a spare wheel and carrier, one underneath pod and will have other extras. We had an extra zip put in last year so that the side wall can roll up for extra ventilation but never tested it as OH did his back and we never got away. Our 'kids' are all adults now so it slept 5 adults (even the 6ft 'boy' who became known as the worm!) was very comfy in his private compartment underneath! MUCH more comfy than a tent. Cabin very quick to pop up and awning not bad. We took a gazebo with sides for overnight stops en route through Europe for cover and privacy without taking awning up and down. Feel free to email further questions if we can help.

Hi everyone, thanks for your thoughts, perhaps second hand is the way to go.

Lazydaisy and Needhairdryer, if you are interested in selling - please would you send me some further details. What you are selling, it's condition, the price you are after and some photos, if possible. That way we can have a look and see if it is what we are after, as we wouldn't want to put you to any trouble unnecessarily.

If you wanted, you could email me direct on ian.thomo@talk21.com or post the details on this thread.

Many thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

I would go for second hand as well -

We purchased a second hand folding camper a couple of years ago; but have recently sold it as we decided to get a tin tent. The beauty of second hand (couple of years old) is that we got nearly as much when we sold it as we paid for it. If we had bought a new one we would have lost lots more money.

Probably only worth buying new if you are going to keep it for a long time.

Neil
