Hi anyone out there who has had experience in putting one of these huge monsters up.

I had a go but had trouble getting the poles in the bedroom section, resulting in the tent not going up.

Had to abort before I got angry and broke something.

Is there a knack to it?

Hi Daz

We used to have one of these and loved it, yes there is a knack to it.

  • I assume its the nine man tent
  • place all the poles through, that is three across the middle if memory serves
  • place the poles in the sleeping areas
  • Now make sure that the poles in the mid section are in to the fixings on one side
  • now you must go under the tent to push it up whilst someone os pushing the poles in to place
  • the bed sections should be quite easy
  • once all poles are in peg down
  • Should take about an hour

Give us a sout if you want further advice

Yeh, no prob with the poles, theyre all linked together and are in three sets of three so thayre pretty straight forward.

The problem is  at the other end, the tension is so tight I am struggling to get the pins in.

How much stress can these poles take.

Is it best to peg out the ground sheet and work to that, in order to position the poles in the correct place?

Thanks for your advise Sean

Yes

I would peg out the ground sheet

I dont remember them being that difficult tight yes but remeber the poles are very strong.

Suggest have a beer or two before starting to release that stress

It helps if you have a second person feeding the poles as tightly as possible into the pinned in end and sliding as much loose sleeve as possible along to your end. Also make sure you`re not crossing poles at the pin and rings...this can make life very difficult if you`re twisting the rings .

Also, does this tent have tension adjusters at the ring and pins? If so, loosen them off before you put the poles in and tighten after. f it doesn`t, then the tent and poles will be a very tight fit...have to be. Our last tent was like this anf Hubby always skinned at least one knuckle putting the pins in.

No adjusters on the tent, would have made life a lot easier if there were.

I think it was a case of first time, not knowing what to expect, it was a little windy too, so on a better day with more time on my hands may go up easier.

I WILL get there this tent is NOT going to beat me.

Thanks for all your advice. It has all been taken on board and used another day.

Look out for my posting of jubilence when i finally get an erection,24

Why all tents are not fitted with adjustable tensioning straps on the ring and pin system I don't know. Makes life so much easier and quicker... not to mention no more frayed tempers and skinned knuckles (see above).

I've got a Sunncamp Angler tent that I use for night fishing. There are no adjustable straps on that and it can be a right game to get the rings in the ends of the poles, so I know just what you mean Daz.

Another point to look out for when making a decision on purchasing a new tent.
