We have a Pennine Sterling and have just replaced the leisure battery, all is connected however the whale pump won't work and the battery power needle is showing red. The battery is fully charged, we have checked, if we hook to the mains there is a red light on the transformer box and sockets work but no whale pump. There seems to be a problem with the camper connecting to the battery, we've checked fuses etc. a friend mentioned we may need a new transformer box but at £200 fitted I'm a bit reluctant. Help, any thoughts much appreciated.

Did all work before you changed battery? See if all other 12v apps work and all 240 apps work then you will see if you have an isolated prob with the whale. Make a direct connection to the whale from another source to see if it works then you can start to eliminate failures.

Thanks for the reply, would a problem with just the whale, make the battery needle show red even though it's charged? Thanks you

Could do! It might be telling you there is something wrong with the system I.e. the whale isn't working! You gotta isolate the problem. Do check to see if the whale works from another source. Use another battery and connect directly that wil tell you if the whale is good or not. If all else fails a good auto electrician would solve it for you. Good luck

What 'derekcbr' is saying is that you have to undertake an elimination process to detect the offending part and to do this you need to bypass the transformer box to identify if that is the real cause of the problem. The way to do this is: There will be two brass connectors at the water pump plug (where it fits in to the water housing), so you have to remove the leisure battery from the camper and get an assistant to help with this. You need two short lengths of 12 volt cable with some insulation stripped back (so the copper strands are visible) then one person holds each one separately on the water pump contacts with your assistant at the opposite end to touch one cable on the battery positive pole and the other on the negative pole. You are then feeding a direct current to the water pump so no other components are involved in the circuit test. If the pump runs then you have isolated part of the problem so then you can rule out the water pump and focus on the transformer box itself. If you then consider that the transformer box could be malfunctioning it may require a circuit test by a professional auto electrician but at least you have then narrowed the problem down.
