Having recently bought a Cabanon Stratus, I am interested in the side storage system.
Does anyone have any experience of this? I imagine it is a bit of an effort to get the trailer onto its side, and wonder if you need to empty out anything stored in the lockers/front box first?

Thanks,

Stephen.

I have a Cabanon Mercury. Looked at but discarded the idea of trying to tip the trailer on its side, its heavy and anything loose. plates in kitchen etc would go all over the place. So you would have to empty it all out.
I just take wheels off for winter and leave it on axle stands. Have to put concrete block on hitch end to balance fitted kitchen weight. Then have a storage cover to go over and it sits outside until needed next season. Usually end April through to end middle October.

We have the Neptune which is the heaviest variant of these tt's. We have a side storage kit and it works a treat. I removed the canvas and detached the kitchen unit. I only left light items like water containers and sleeping bags in it.

To get it on its side I jacked it up with a bottle jack and put blocks of wood under the wheel and progressively jacked it up a little bit higher. As it's now at about a 30 degree angle it only took myself and a male neighbour to tip it on its side completely.

We brought it out and had to lower it down a few months back for the first time and I was quite worried about it as it's so heavy. The two of us lowered it fairly easily between us. I would recommend 3 people to lift and lower it though. My neighbour and I both workout a lot so had a bit of an advantage.

Once on its side I was able to really inspect it and have treated the wooden floor.i also discovered the inside edges of the tyres were perishing so replaced those now.

The main advantage for us it's out of the weather and safe and secure over winter away from thieves.

The downside is it can take a fair bit of space up as the wheels stick out. I put the kitchen unit alongside it over the bottom wheel and don't have to remove anything from the kitchen unit.

Thanks yes, my thoughts exactly. I am able to fit in the garage and don't think it would actually save very much space anyway.
